Had another gain last week :(...........0.8 lbs which means I've gone up 1.4
lbs over the last 2 weeks.

I'm disappointed because I really worked my a.s off this week at the gym
trying to stave off my over-indulgence at the wedding last week.....On
Tuesday, it looked like I was going to have success at Friday morning's WI,
but when I woke up on Wednesday, I was up 1 3/4 lbs!, Then I Thursday, I was
up another 1/4 lbs.........yet I hadn't done anything wrong.

This week, I've decided to go back to FLEX.  I feel more in control on FLEX,
but I've had 2 major challenges already this week.  It was my little son's 6
year old Birthday on Friday and I had a small piece of cake (2 1/2" x 2
1/2") and he wanted to go to Boston Pizza where there was nothing on the
menu under 100 grams of fat!....only kidding.......I downloaded the
nutritional info from their website and make the best possible to choice to
stay within my allowed 31 FLEX points....but I still went over on my day by
16 points.....  That left me only 19 of my 35 weekly points.

Last night was a major challenge for me.  Some of you will remember that
back in April, I lost my best friend to cancer?  Well, it was his son's
wedding last night.  YES, it was tough on the emotional level of things, but
all in all everyone had a good time.  I tried to plan as best as I could.
They had an antipasto bar and then pasta, veal marsala, breaded chicken in a
white lemon sauce, and seafood.......dessert was a vanilla ice cream dark
and white covered chocolate heart with fresh berries.  Then they brought out
a midnight buffet with all kinds of sweets, fruit and porchetta (stuffed
roasted pig).  The good news is that I only had fruit from the midnight
buffet.  I'm taking a huge NSV for that!  The other good news is that I
stayed away from the bread and butter all night as well.  The bad news, is
that I didn't pass up any of the main courses.  when it was all said and
done, I had calculated my points as 42.  I had 19 remaining weekly points
and 17 remaining on my daily points...................so I guess I went over
by 6 points :(

We had a good time, and I really didn't over indulge.  Tomorrow is
Thanksgiving here in Canada and lucky for me, we only stick to white meat
Turkey, Fat free gravy, corn, carrots, mushrooms and mashed potatoes made
with fat free milk.  We're not into pumpkin pie or any fancy desserts and I
learned a long time ago to avoid the crescent rolls and buns and only eat a
bit of stuffing made with weight-watchers or light bread, onions and
sage........

I'm going to try to work my a.s off again all week at the gym, so hopefully
my this Friday's WI, I will reduce the possible damage caused this
week.......

I'm tracking absolutely everything this week.........I hope it will pay off
by the end of the week.

Sorry for the long post.............

I'll bet your frustrated...Keep strong Eddie...I have always been on core
and can't speak to the advantage of changing programs...To me the whole
thing is portion control...Last night I had the kids and their loved ones
over...I made a prime rib/baked potatoes and hot Franchesi bread (my
downfall)...I had a rib bone and 5 chunks of bread and a few potatoes (
small) ...I had no desert and Half & Half in my coffee...It was more than I
normally eat but I had veggie cocktail for lunch which was only 200
calories...That left me room to indulge and still stay on program...There
are always going to be events which can sway us...The ability to
eat,...enjoy and keep on target is working well for me...You will
succeed...Your on the road...You have the right attitude...GG

Maybe you did lose fat, but gained muscle.  Muscle is heavier than fat.  My
prediction is that next week you will see a big loss!

I've thought about trying Core, but don't think it's right for me.  I feel
more in control with Flex as well and think that Core would just lead to
overeating all those Core foods!  That's what I don't need!

Oh, that must have been tough, although I'm sure your friend's son
appreciated you being there for him.  Over by 6 points isn't bad,
considering what it could have been...

Ah, yes, our Canadian Thanksgiving.  I am cooking here today for my
husband's family...turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, brussells sprouts,
carrots, stuffing, salad, gravy, apple and pumpkin pie.  I don't really care
for turkey, mashed potatoes or stuffing, so never really eat much of those
items, if any at all.  Mostly I stick to salad and vegies, but have to save
points for pumpkin pie....one of my favorites.  I did make it with fat free
evaporated milk instead of the usual cream and full fat milk.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving dinner at my parents house with my brothers and
sister and all the kids - works out to be about 20 of us when we get
together - should be lots of fun...mind you the kids always make it that
way!

Thanks for your comments Brenda :)
I thought about the muscle being part of it, but it's been 9 months at the
gym and it usually takes a good year to build muscle I think..........
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well..........boy oh boy......thank God you
don't like Turkey! 2 meals! ouch!

Usually we do my wife's family on Sunday and my family on Monday but this
year my sister went to her daughter's in Ottawa, so that eliminated one meal
for me!

I actually had  a really good day today and only consumed 23 of my 31 points
due to being busy and missing lunch...........it wasn't intentional, but why
eat if I'm not hungry?  Maybe it will help balance off the extra 6 I ate
yesterday?

first take a couple of NSV's for getting through all those challenges, and
that 6 points can easily be made up in activity... and I am wondering if
part of your gains isn't because you have returned to the gym, have a great

I thought maybe the extra exercise might be influencing the situation also
but I'm not sure?  I've been extremely stressed these last 2 weeks as well
and someone told me that stress can make you add weight as well
?.........not sure what's going on, but I'm going to stay the course and get
through this week..........Taking the NSV's are important and that's
something I've learned from you the most Lee!  Thanks so much!

stress really does it for me, not only does it affect your chemistry,
unlike many people I simply cease eating thus flipping into starvation mode,
I was thinking the exercise after a break might have your body holding water
in the muscles, ray explained this once and I understood what he said but
can't explain it to you perhaps he will do it again, Lee, who really thinks
if there weren't NSVs some days just wouldn't be worth breathing through

You're doing OK there Eddie, for a week of major celebrations.  Try the
zero point soups when you get hungry: add one to a meal as well as using
them as snacks and midnight fillers.  I find a hot soup is more filling
than a salad.

I'm sorry you're having a tough week--at least weight-wise; your positive
attitude is awesome.  I hate to see those little frowny faces.

Have a great Thanksgiving.  And I hope you're thankful for the 74.2 lbs
you've lost.  That will keep you going on plan.

Hi Patty,

You're absolutely right! 74.2 lbs is still quite an achievement.........

For those that have know me for over a year, my story is full of some MAJOR
NSV's........I couldn't even stand in line for my weigh-in during my first
30 lbs loss........it's been a wonderful journey and going back to where I
was will NEVER, EVER happen again! Quitting is not an option and things can
only continue to get better on so many levels for me.

I can't help but wonder how much of a gain you would have had if you
weren't watching what you eat like in the old daze.

Just a thought.

That's an excellent point Mongo.

I have been dealing with a lot lately and the temptations are all over the
place.  Yes, I've succumbed to a few and have eaten more than I should, but
it's nothing like the damage that I would have done in the past.  You are
now conscious of what you're doing and working on ways to compensate and
control it rather than going all in.  Even with the slight gain, you scored
a NSV.

Yesterday we went to an NFL game and had the annual tailgate party.  I had a
Virgin Mary and lots of raw veggies, but I also had a pecan bar and a whole
wheat zucchini muffin (that I baked) and some taco dip. I skipped eating any
lunch in the stadium.  For dinner that night we went to a Mexican restaurant
and I skipped the chips and ordered a light dish (grilled chicken in red
sauce with some rice and beans and a little guac - no tortillas or cheese).
In the past I would have probably had alcohol, lots of chips and dip,
crackers and cheese, junk food during the game and some kind of Mexican dish
smothered in cheese, sour cream, and guac.

Today I took all of the leftover muffins to work and gave them away.   It's
a lifestyle change.  You enjoy yourself but know there are limits.

YES....you're absolutely right VB!.......learning to live within my limits
is a challenge, but I'm getting better at it as each day
passes..........good for you in exercising control over your situation as
well........I know it's tough, but I think you handled it very well!!!

if you really need a reality check... figure out the rate at which you had
been gaining before this lifestyle change, go to your highest weight, and
figure the time passage and gains that would have occurred if you hadn't
changed your eating, if you do this you will be smack in the reality that
any small set back is just not a big deal compared to where you could have
been, Lee
