Just got in this evening...
Devon is not the place to go if you want to lose weight, but
self-catering helps!
Arrived Saturday. Dave B cooked a very nice pasta bake: not as low fat
as I do it, but as he has erosions, so not as fatty as many... And
anyway, he's a damned good cook, and not having to do it myself after a
rather fraught day was bliss! (Insert tale of busted beer bottles, flood
under conservatory cupboard, broken glass... times two! We just got one
lot sorted when the bottom fell out of a carrier and bang went another
couple! GRR!)
I cooked Sunday dinner: roast chicken, low fat sausages, dry-roast
potatoes, lots of veg, followed by a low fat apple crumble and half fat
creme fraiche... There was about 5 acres of apple crumble, so it
reappeared all week!
Mary cooked Monday: Atlas Mountain stew with couscous, followed by apple
pie, which neither she nor I had room for! We ate ours for breakfast
the next morning! She's also a loser, so that meal was nice and low fat. :)
Gill cooked Tuesday: boiled gammon with mustard sauce, Jacket spuds,
peas, carrots and sprouts, followed by raspberry pavlova... Yum, and
small portions of pavlova were not too disastrous!
Wednesday we went out for dinner after D&G and D&M (we had 3 Daves in a
party of 10 folk!) went home. Janet and I shared a dinner between us
after she saw the dish we fancied earlier in the week. I OUGHT not to
have ordered ice cream to follow... I couldn't finish it! I'd have
been happy with a spoon and a little share from James and the hubby!
But it was VERY good Devon cream ice cream with substantial chunks of
Belgian chocolate in it!
Thursday Guy cooked (not officially part of our party, but a friend from
another news group), and did a chicken & bacon risotto. THAT was OK,
but the nibbly nuts and things after were sure to go straight to my hips!
Friday I cooked again, with Janet's help, and we had a VERY low fat pork
casserole with cider and apples in it, and rice and cabbage along side,
followed by ice cream and my home made rumptoft or tinned pineapple.
Lunches tended to be of the cheese/cold meat/French
bread/Ryveta/crackers/help yourself sort, where I ALWAYS over-do it, or
at a pub.
Hey ho... I didn't swim EVERY day (James brought a stinker of a cold
with him and generously gave it to everyone!), but I did swim for all
but two days when my share of the communal cold was at its worst, and
most days I did swim I was in much longer than intended, playing with
Guy's kids! :)
For those who want to know, this is where we went:
http://www.witheridge-devon.com/newhouse.htm
This was 'our' barn: http://newhousecottages.com/elm.php And yes, it is
JUST as nice as it looks! There are pix in another part of the complex
showing cows in what is now the living room of this conversion! :D
The fellas went walking, I got in some sewing (as did Gill - school play
costumes to make!), and we did enough site seeing to feel that we had
had a proper holiday. We explored the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton
on the way home today. My abiding impression of the place will forever
be how TINY Concorde is up close!
I have no idea how much weight I have regained, and I REALLY don't care!
Thursday will tell me! I'll be back On Program strictly for loss
until then, starting with breakfast tomorrow. Any gains are temporary
and will soon go. No recriminations, no guilt: I had a thoroughly good
time! :)

Nice is a nice enough word to describe Devon. I am sure it was worth
whatever the cost (money or points)
Welcome back.

It's a lovely place, but EVERYTHING is full of cream! I ate too much,
and drank more than usual, so I have a few pounds to shift, but so what?
They went before and they'll go again. :)
