Dealing with Low Blood Pressure?

Hi,
I have been on WW for about 9 months and have lost about 65 pounds.

The last couple of months I have been plateauing and my blood pressure
is ridiculously low.  I went to the doctor and to a cardiologist and
everything is normal... no physical problems, aside from the low bp.
I get really lightheaded and swoony, especially with exercise.  I
really love the gym and typically do about an hour of cardio and an
hour of weight training 3 or 4 times a week.  But lately, after an
hour on the elliptical, my bp is actually dropping.  Last time it was
about 103 over 45.  Which sounds fabulous, but sucks when you are
almost unconscious at the time.  Sometimes it happens after 2 minutes,
sometimes after 45.

Additionally, I am wondering if it may explain my plateau.  Is bp
related to metabolism?

As far as I am concerned, restricting activity is not an option.  I am
only 36 and in excellent health.  I drink about 4 litres of water a
day and am not restricting my salt intake.  I have had blood tests out
the wazoo and do not have problems with my glands, blood sugar or
other blood chemistry.

My doctor tells me that she could give me medication to jack up my bp,
but that the health risks associated with doing that are not worth the
benefit.  I would love to eat more salt, but all the salty snacks I
can think of are not exactly points friendly... and the thought of
just licking a salt-block makes me fairly nauseated.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrea

Just wondering if they've checked your thyroid.  Low thyroid effects your
blood pressure as well as making it difficult to lose weight, so both of
your symptoms would fit with it.

I'm suprised your doctor isn't more concerned and also agree that it can
be a thyroid problem.  Pretzels are a WW friendly salty snack.

They have checked *everything*.  Apparently it is not a symptom of
another problem, but an issue all its own.

Pretzels are a good idea.  I wish I could stand them...  ;)

If you need salt don't obsess over points.  Have salted crackers for a
start and then look at other salted foods.  Your health is more
important than your weight.

In all seriousness, I would consider going to see another Dr. about the
issue.  A relative of mine had the same issue and he had a lot more testing
done than just blood tests.  It can be a sign of other things that won't
show up on blood tests.  I don't know what his diagnosis was, or if they
found a reason for it, but I remember him having specialist appointments
related to it.  I hope you find out what it is.

you need to find out what is going on with medical professionals but as to
low point and salty try slices of tomato with salt or slices of watermelon
or cantaloupe, Lee
