I'm dealing with a cold bug this week and it's REALLY latched on, so I hope
the meds kick in and don't endanger my WI for next time.

BTW, I got a George Foreman Grill and it is wonderful to have on WW. Lots of
grilled meats and veggies to be had for not alot of points...yum!

My 10% is SO CLOSE...just 4.1 pounds away.

I love my GFgrill!!

Trick that my husband found somewhere: When you're done grilling, turn it
off, and put a wet paper towel between the "plates". The residual heat will
create steam and losen up the stuff..
MUCH easier to clean later!

I wipe off immediate extra stuff with a paper towel and then put the wet
paper towels inside the George for the rest of the stuff that adheres to
the grill while we eat dinner.  It is so easy to clean that way.

Congratulations Glenn!

Here's an easy chicken recipe for the George. Marinate skinless boneless
chicken breasts in a mixture of 1 part lemon juice, 1 part lime juice
and 2 parts orange juice.  For example that could be 1 tablespoon each
of lemon and lime and 2 of orange.  Season with salt, pepper and
tarragon and marinate for an hour or so in the refrigerator.  Preheat
your George and then cook the breast for 5 minutes.

Grill?!  Recipes?!

I'm so surprised that a NG about weight loss would have so many posts about
food.  Am I the only one who thinks this is contrary to the purpose of the
NG?   What's the point?   Why think about food when there are more healthful
things that deserve our attention, like health or relationships or outdoor
activities or ...?   Obsession with food is what makes people overweight.
Those with the temerity to point this simple fact out are the "enemy".  Want
proof?  Just watch the nasty comments to follow my post.

It's the same thing with weight loss advertisements on television.  WW is
just like the others I've seen.  They parade pictures of "low calorie" or
"low point" food in front of viewers to entice subscribers to join, while
they promise weight loss at the same time.  "Give the suckers everything
they want."  Profit motive doesn't equal honesty.

Weight loss should be about lifestyle changes - about healthy attitudes.
Attitudes by definition are part of our psyche and determine what we do
naturally without conscious effort.  With a positive attitude weight loss
can be achieved by anyone in a way that's natural, effortless and
self-sustaining.

It's a fact of nature that maintaining one's weight can be automatic and
needn't be a struggle.  The only fat animals are pets whose owners overfeed
them to make themselves feel good.  The only fat humans are those who
overfeed themselves for the same reason.  No one is naturally fat.
Normal-weight folks are that way because of their life style, not because
they struggle daily to count points and measure portions.  No one can
maintain that struggle for long, which is why diet program followers
experience yo-yo weigh fluctuations.

Most people on this NG have failed to control their lifestyles and
attitudes, so instead they struggle daily to follow weight loss programs
that benefit only the for-profit program sponsors.  Are they taking the easy
way out?  Actually, NO!  They are exerting huge amounts of effort!  And
those who do physical exercise to lose weight are making even more effort.

What's easier: changing your lifestyle and attitude such that you don't
crave food, or exercising hard for an hour or more to burn the calories from
a single meal that you should not have ingested in the first place?  This is
simple common sense.

Listening to most posters on this NG is truly counter-productive.  These
folks have been here for years and they are still overweight.  To succeed in
life one must listen to winners and emulate them, not listen to others who
have nothing to teach.

The message: change your attitude and control how you think about food.
Think of unhealthful or too much food as harmful (as it surely is) and
associate a bad taste with it or whatever else you need to do in order to
naturally avoid it.  You won't miss it after a while.  Substitute other
activities for eating.  When you see the pounds come off and your lifespan
increase by doing what now seems natural to you, you'll never go back.  Just
like most normal-weight folks.

Please don't reply.  My BMI is under 24 and I have nothing to learn here.
Just follow my advice and you'll be in the same category.

But, George, everyone does still need to eat.  Even with all the best
attitude and lifestyle changes, everyone still needs to eat.  I don't know
about anyone else, but a healthy new recipe for chicken (or anything else)
enhances my chosen lifestyle--it doesn't set me to obsessing on food.

I agree--if your only goal is weignt loss and not a continued healthy
lifestyle once you have taken off the weight.  (Been there, done that)  But
a healthy lifestyle is obviously not something that is "natural" to people
who have not been living healthy.  It needs to be learned.  It's a process.
The goal is not weight loss in and of itself.  The goal is developing the
healthy lifestyle you are talking about--and a healthy weight will be a part
of that lifestyle.  By sharing our successes and failures--our experience,
strength and hope--we are living a healthy lifestyle.

One way or another, George, the weight loss process needs to happen, right?
Why not make the journey with friends?

I'm not certain how you get that from the posts here.  A lot of people have
been developing their new healthy lifestyles, and are losing the excess
weight as a result of that new lifestyle.  And they are losing the excess
weight slowly, as medical studies have shown to be best.  If someone is
going from 350 pounds to 120, it's going to take more than just a few
months.

It's so good to hear that you are healthy, George.  I sort of wonder why you
are reading weight loss newsgroups, though.

<chuckle>  He must lead a very boring life to have such a need to come and
criticize others the way he does.  Hmmmm....which would be worse:  being
over weight and working hard to do something about it, or to live such an
empty life that one needs to criticize others in order to feel good about
oneself.

Mine too - ER and pain and all!  MUCH more fun than living under a
bridge grumbling all day!

I'm off to have fun with a hoover, a sewing machine, several yards of
fabric and some pretty thread...  Oh, and these GIANT BUTTONS I found
the other day! Y'all have a fun day!
