I have a friend who cannot afford either meetings or online and I am
trying to help her out by giving her links to point lists, where to
print out the journal etc, but I can't figure out how to find her points
target.  She weighs 168 and is fairly sedentary (sits all day at her job
and at evening classes).  Can somebody out there help?  thanks, Nance
Laura - 20 Oct 2007 01:54 GMT
She gets:

Female: 2

Age: 17-26=4
       27-37=3
       38-47=2

weight: 16 (take first 2 digits)

Height:
under 5'1"= 0
5'1" to 5'10"=1
over 5' 10" =2

How do you spend the day:
Sitting down = 0
Occasionally sitting but mainly standing = 2
Walking most of the time = 4
Doing physical hard work most of the tiem = 6

I'm sorry but I don't understand what to do with this information.

and is about 5'7"

she gets 2 (female) + 1 (age=50) + 16 (weight=168) + 1 (height) + 0 (sits
most of the day) = 20 points per day
NANCI Lea - 20 Oct 2007 03:33 GMT
can somebody just give me a straight answer? thanks

I did. Reread my message carefully and you will get the answer. This is all
in the first week info as well as explained online. The points calculation
is not based on a single criteria anymore. It is a more complicated formula.

Do you know how many point you get a day?

I suggest you and your friend wait until there is Free registration and pay
the $12 or 13 for the first meeting to have the entire program explained to
you. It is worth the money.

I found the chart online.  I found the information you posted hard to
follow, although I appreciate your providing it.  She really cannot
afford even that simple solution.  She and her husband both work out of
town (jobs are in short supply in our little town) which means two cars
eating up gasoline, they have two kids in private school (our public
schools here are nightmarish) etc etc etc and they do the best they can.
I try to be a friend, help with the kids when I can etc.  Then every
penny they can spare goes to college funds.  THere is just NOTHING left
over.  I have been in that situation myself, minus the kids, and,
believe me, even the little  amount of  money she would spend that way
just is not there.  I would offer it, but she'd be embarrassed.
I am watching a REAL auction for a used set of the materials for her.

As an on-line user don't you have the information for your friend?...GG

That was going to be my point.

I work for WW, I'm not giving the information my members have to pay for,
for free.. and it's unfortunate that Laura gave it out.

I have mixed feelings about that.  Frankly, I see weight watchers as
more interested in money than in helping people change their lives.  To
this day I wonder why, instead of pursuing the guy who wrote WWCalc
(which I have on my palm and is far more useful than anything wwers
makes) they don't just BUY the software, which would be vastly helpful
to so many people.
Secondly, this group is not officially affiliaated with wwers  and I
think we should be free to say what we like in posts and, if I can help
somebody who cannot afford the "help" of wwers and who needs it, I
really don't CARE that others (including me) "pay for it."  A LOT of us
share our information with friends.
Gary G - 20 Oct 2007 15:18 GMT
But you use the program...Your attitude about stealing reflects why our
society is going to fall apart...You claim to be an on-line user but suspect
your asking questions for yourself...If WW in you opinion is a rip off find
something you agree with...Instead you feel stealing things is OK because
"you" feel it's a rip off...I'm sorry...My nephew also finds record
companies are a rip off so he steals music...Maybe all this is OK with you
and if I'm wrong please tell me...GG

you know this is grounds for slander?
If you are so quick to accuse people of lying, then you probably do so
yourself.
Yes, I am an online user and would treat my friend to it it she'd accept
it.
Weight Watchers, with all the value that you DO get is still a
money-grubbing for-profit mill and could care less aboout you and your
weight loss.  They have stolen enough on their own.

I agree with you.  WW is all about the money.  WW is a business, plain and
simple.

I did belong to WW on line and decided it was a total waste of money.  Why
should I pay them to use a site to keep track of my food?  A person can find
lots of diet information on the net for free.  I just didn't see much point
in paying to belong to a group when there are so many free places on the net
for people to exchange dieting information.

Some years ago (shortly after the introduction of the points system) I lost
about 40 pounds via Weight Watchers. Yes, it's a business, but at the time I
felt I got excellent value for my money. As luck would have it, I was able
to attend meetings run by an award-winning leader who had the ability--like
a fine, evangelistic preacher--to completely camptivate people's attention
during the meetings and send them out each week charged up to get with and
stick with the program. You can't really duplicate that online, nor can you
duplicate the impact of the face-to-face, real-time interaction of the
group.

But I agree: if it's just "the facts" you want, they're readily available
for free. And although it may not be entirely ethical for people to be
sharing the details of the WW points and other programs with nonmembers,
it's just not practical for WW (or their paying members) to expect this
information to remain proprietary when so many thousands of people have
purchased it.

Summing up: the unique value is in the people-to-people interaction.

I suppose that is correct.  Group therapy does work for many people.

I can't understand why people are upset if information is shared.  If I buy
a book, read it, and then give it to you, is that wrong? it isn't as though
someone is copying or selling the information. I didn't sign any
confidentially agreement with WW, and I feel free to share my books or other
WW with other people.  After trying WW on their own ,many people make the
decision join a plan and go to the meetings.
Stormmee - 21 Oct 2007 15:42 GMT
I can see both sides of this and choose not to share in this format because
I don't know that the person can't afford it, if I know someone can't help
them selves because of finances I try and help, for me this usually means
giving them materials that are from the last set of the plan... then if they
stick with it then I update them, Lee

I susect that we were mislead (at least I was) that she was an online PAYING
customer. If I had realised that earlier I not not have given her the
information that I did.
