Food & Exercise -- 12/28/2006

Apart from my usual run, spent a lazy day at home.  (It's fun being
retired :-).)

Food  (all at home):

* 8:45: 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices melted
f/f cheese & 10g grated asiago
* 12:30: 4 oz. ground turkey burger on whole wheat hamburger bun w/ 3
slices f/f cheese, dill pickle slices, & catsup
* 3:15: energy ar
* 7:30: 2 cups minestrone w/ shells; 2 slices f/f cheese; 1 pear
* 10:30: 6 1/8 oz. wine

Totals: 1378 calories (111 from wine), 32g fat (21%), 136g carbs
(39%), 105g protein (30%)

Exercise:

2:15 -- 3 mile run

Chris .. I am curious.  The "f/f cheese slices" that you reference ....
what are they?  Are you referring to the 45-50 calorie/slice processed
cheese slices?

Those turkey burgers are pretty good.  Just finished a package of them.  I
put them on weight watcher's whole wheat bread slices ... 90 calories per
two slices.

Sorry -- f/f stands for "fat-free" -- from Kraft.  They're 30 calories
per slice.  Obviously not as tasty as real cheese, but I like them
(obviously :-)).  They're a great source of calcium and protein --
downside is that they're sort of high in sodium, particularly in the
quantities I consume.

Is there a particular brand of whole wheat buns you use for your turkey
burgers?  Most of the ones I've seen are quite high in sugar.  Thank
you.

By the way, I love your daily lunch menu.  I have now made it mine,

The buns I use are Trader Joe's brand -- 110 calories with 1 gram of
sugar.  Others I've seen in supermarkets are a fair bit higher in
calories -- and also larger, I think.  These taste good and are big
enough to hold the burgers :-).

Great!  Thanks for the information.  We have a very large Trader Joe's
here in Vegas...only a few miles away from the house...so I'll check out
the whole wheat buns next time I'm there.

I bought the "Roman Meal" whole wheat buns...they have 3 grams of
sugar...and are very tasty, but I'd be happier with less sugar.   --
I read most of your posts and am trying your way of eating.  I basically
do the same breakfast and lunch as you (also, same every day) and vary
my dinners a bit.  I'm learning a lot by reading the posts (at least
most) in this group.  Keep 'em coming.  lol    -- Sue

Gee, I'm not really trying to advocate others eating as I do.  It's
just what I like :-).  Lots of people would hate eating the same
things so often, but I'm not much into food preparation and it's
easier to just have something that I know I enjoy and have on hand.  I
do think a diet that's farily high in lean protein -- which mine is --
helps with weight loss and maintenance.

Hey...I understand completely....but, I, too, find it much easier to
stick with the same basic meal plans for several weeks at a time.
Others might find this very mundane...boring...but it works for me  ---
and, obviously, for you.

The less I have to think about meal planning and preparation, the better
I do.  Otherwise, I'm constantly thinking of food.....and making myself
hungry!  lol    I realize you are NOT "pushing" this way of eating....it
just happens to appeal to me, too.  --  Sue

Exactly! I couldn't go without eating more veggies, for example, but it
works great for you! :)

We each have to find what works for us, and this too may change over
time.
