Woman Dies After Cancer Blunder

A further 18 women mistakenly cleared by the same doctor have also
been told their chances of surviving are now "significantly worse" as
a result of the delayed diagnosis

Fri Feb 2 2007

A woman who was wrongly given the all-clear from breast cancer has now
died of the disease, a hospital trust has admitted.

A further 18 women mistakenly cleared by the same doctor have also
been told their chances of surviving are now "significantly worse" as
a result of the delayed diagnosis.

Consultant radiologist Amjad Husien's blunders sparked a massive
review of almost 2,500 mammograms by bosses at the Trafford General
Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital, both in Greater
Manchester.

One woman's breast cancer was only noticed two years after she was
given the all-clear by the radiologist

The revelation emerged in a report from NHS North West which blamed Mr
Husien for the errors, adding his failure was "compounded by
systematic weaknesses in Trafford NHS Trust".

Report author Professor Mark Baker said Mr Husien's work "almost
immediately" aroused suspicion, according to the report.

But despite his colleagues reporting their fears to bosses in November
2003, he was allowed to continue working for a further 17 months.

It emerged hospital staff did not trust Mr Husien's conclusions and
would double-check with other radiographers before informing patients
of results, the report said.

The report criticised hospital procedures and said errors could have
been spotted earlier if a clinical audit of Mr Husien's work had been
ordered after his colleagues raised their concerns in November 2003.

A total of 176 women had to be recalled and re-tested after the bungle
was identified in April 2005.

Mr Husien was then suspended and is currently the subject of a General
Medical Council investigation.

And?  The point of this article is what?

Doctors are just people with a job, making money.
Doctors are not Gods.
Sadly enough, it implies that one must ALWAYS get second and third opinion
sources.

1. If you are sick and see a Doctor and the Doctor doesn't nail it, see
another Doctor or two.
2. Although not practical for many, get a complete physical once a year and
from a different doctor each time.

Why?

Statistically, this is a total waste of resources.

I wonder what
"Although not practical for many"
means.

A physical from one physician is not any base.  It's a crap shoot.
If you have millions at your disposal, many are worth more than going to the
most expensive clinic, Doctor, Hospital in the country.

AND
How is getting a single physical from different doctor a waste of resources.

Also
Age and previous conditions make a major difference.
Also
Most (many) get the yearly physical as part of their insurance.

I'm not entirely comfortable with my post, here.  I was playing on the name
of the doctor.  It matches the former leader of Iraq, so I was assuming the
doctor was Islamic and the patients were thus infidels to be eliminated.
I'm not sure that makes me a "redneck," but prejudice based on the doctor's
name was questionable on my part.

>> Multiculturalism doesn't work for anyone.

> WTF does multiculturalism have to do with this?

Multiculturalists have decided to turn Britain from a British
nation into a "diverse multicultural" nation that no longer
retains British characteristics. How does this benefit Britain
when the majority would rather retain their heritage and culture
without the problems caused by the introduction of undesired
immigrants?

> Are you some sort of Welsh White Supremacist?

No, but it is interesting that you are stereotyping people. Doesn't
the doctrine say that we all just random individuals without any
distinct traits or instincts? How dare you attempt to categorize
someone!?!

You make it sound like you are forced to go to third-world doctors, but
really you have the choice to turn them down.

If you want a capable, white, western-trained doctor then pick one.
