When is the right time of day to step on the scales ????? of course not
after meals times , but which time of days truely reflects your real weight
? as we know , jumping on the scales first thing in the morning after doing
what most people do first thing in the morning (toilet....) is also a unfair
reflection of are true weight.......any ideas ?!?!?! i guess weighing one
self a few times during the day and taking a average weight maybe the best
way.......anyone !!!

I don't eat or drink after 6 pm. I find that doing it in the morning before
you eat, but after you've made natural eliminations gives a pretty
consistent base. It works for me.

The time when there's the lowest variation of random weight
effects.

More important is how many days between weighings - If
stepping on the scale is going to be an emotional problem then
today is not a good day.  Combined with earlier on most folks
have a drive to step on the scale too often so for most less
often.  Combined with later on some have less drive to step on
the scale so moving towards daily as you approach maintenance.

Why do you think that?  There's no such thing as "true" weight
because of water retention bounce and assorted other stuff that
registers with gravity but isn't fat.  So the least-bad that can be
done is pick the time of day with the fewest random effects.
That tends to be stepping out of the shower in the morning.

The only reasons to ever weigh more than once per day are to
find out that the scale isn't consistent and thus how many days
need to be averaged before you can believe that a reading is
"real", and to drive yourself nuts with an unhealthy obsession.

*ehehe* I used to weigh myself like six, eight times a day, to the
point where I was thinking of joining pro anorexia group. I agree, but
three times is okay. Say; morning, afternoon, and night.

Well, for me, I feel the easiest way to do it is after getting up and
having visited the bathroom to pee. That seems to provide enough
consistency for me.

Be sure you have a decent scale. Tanita is a good brand. Ideally you
want a scale that will come up with roughly the same number (within a
half pound) if you step on it three times in the space of a couple
minutes.

"Real weight"... what the heck IS that anyway? Your weight is going to
vary for various reasons throughout the day. First thing in the
morning, you'll be somewhat dehydrated. After a shower, your hair will
be wet and that will add weight. Drink some, eat some, exercise,
weight will change.

If you want to take an average of several measurements throughout the
day, that should work too, as long as you use consistent times. But it
seems like unneccessary extra work to me!

Other have provided you some very excellent answers. Morning time is
the best.

Best weight, however,  is from week to week. Write your weight in a
food diary everyday, and compare to it last week. Keep in mind that
everyday weight is for self control. Not far in the past I was scared
to death of stepping on the scale. Well, that's all behind me :)

The only fear I have right now is giving up somewhere in the future.
Stepping on scale and see my weight going down help me boast my
confidence, and at the same time scares me, thought of giving up is
very scary indeed.

I think I understand why you may think it's unfair to weigh oneself in
the morning. According to my doc, it takes four hours for a meal to
be digested. If a person is eating say; 9pm than he/she shouldn't
sleep until 1am! Bit of walking in night may also help to seep up the
process :)

Speaking from a personal experience: It is best to eat light stuff in
dinner -- say; veggies, or an oatmeal, also drink two glass of water
before sleep.

I missed the beginning of this thread so this point may have already been
made, but IMO,  the best way to weigh is at the same time everyday, under
the same set of conditions (i.e. before breakfast or before or just after
exercise).  The actual reading is not as important as the overall trend,
established by daily readings over a week or so.  The "weigh-ins" should be
under the same general conditions everyday.

For those familiar with Excel spreadsheets, a simple chart with daily
readings recorded is useful.  Excel (and maybe other spreadsheet programs)
allows you to also establish and display a linear trend line to the
graphical display of the recorded weight readings.  Watching the tilt of the
trendline gives you a quick visual indication of how you are doing.  For
example, while in maintenance mode, you want the trend line to stay
perfectly horizontal.  If it slowly starts to tilt upward over time, then
you need to adjust your intake downward or increase your exercise/activity
level.

BTW, somewhere in my reading over the past few months I ran across an
article that claimed that the old rule of thumb of not eating a big meal
just before going to bed is a myth.
The article claimed that the body will burn calories doing the digestion
process just as effectively while sleeping as it does while awake.  You
don't "walk off" a big meal.

The lowest weight of the day is a good marker for measuring future progress.

Anytime unless you see weight loss as this self-absorbing,
always-refreshing, .00001 pound incentive must have to continue. If so,
throw the scales away, you're screwed blue and tat to begin with.
