Just a quick observation and some suggestions for those that are gamers and
struggling to lose weight. I had been thinking about this for a while. I
personally have been using my Xbox in the course of my weight loss journey
by utilizing the "game" Yourself!Fitness by ResponDesign. I love the program
as the routines change on a daily basis and I can track my progress every 10
days through the physical challenges.
I got to thinking about other ways to use videogames to lose weight. Of
course there is DanceDanceRevolution, someone once told me that she uses DDR
with her kids every night for exercise. The Nintendo Wii has people moving
their bodies with all sorts of different games. There are websites out there
dedicated to "Wii Workouts". Another game that I have recent become addicted
to is Guitar Hero. You may not think that this game would help with weight
loss, but if you think about it - it is a possibility. Standing and moving
the guitar as you play the game does burn calories. Anyway to move your body
to burn calories is a good thing...
I had also thought about a stability ball. Somewhere I read about using a
stability ball instead of an office chair. Wouldn't this work in a gaming
setting as well?
Just a few insights...

Wii Boxing is a good workout, as are some of the Rayman mini-games.
I got through 35 songs on Expert mode in Guitar Hero 2. It can be a
good calorie-burner. You pretty much have to stand in order to play.

The few 'gamers' I know have quite the opposite problem.
They lose track of time and dont eat for hours!
Example my husband, who will be in an online 'raid' and cant even take
a moment to eat (he always has to be watching the screen and ready to
key an action lest you let your team gets eaten, zapped, torn to
shreds, etc). They dont call it 'EverCrack' for nothing! (its
EverQuest, but it deserves the nickname!) ;-)
Even I've been playing 'The Longest Journey' and zap! five hours
later ..oh yeah .. I was going to make a sandwich ...
Good games are like reading a good book at times, you just cant tear
yourself away.
So if you find yourself to be an overweight gamer then I would suggest
changing the types of games you are playing and find something more
absorbing :-) Food will be a distant thought ...
