So I didn't completely fall off the wagon, but over the last few months
I've neglected my weight loss endeavors, and I've gained back a couple
pounds I lost near the end of last year.
I'm getting back on the wagon, I've been able to get my eating records
back on track. I'd started falling into some of the old fast food
habits a little. I can kind of blame that on my new job schedule, but
only to a point. I could easily rework my diet to fit, I've just been
too lazy to do so.
I'm getting into an exercise habit also. My new job involves little/no
time out of my desk chair (unlike my old job), so I brought in my old
bicycle that a friend of mine has fixed up and I've been riding it for
about an mile everyday during my lunch break, missing a day every week
or so I forgot how fun it is to ride, but I need to find a different
saddle, the one on there now is pretty uncomfortable. Any suggestions
on a bike seat good for a fat guy?
I'm pretty disappointed that the trolls found their way here! This
group seemed kind of like the "Helm's deep" of fitness newsgroups, a
final bastion of relevance amidst the onrushing hordes of trolls
Internet idiots.

Hey, you are getting back before much damage is done, so good for you!

Yeah, watch the fast food. At least consult whatever restaurants
nutrition facts and see if you can find better choices when you just
have to fast food.

Unfortunately no, I can't even stand to sit on the gym bikes! At any
rate, my doctor has nixed any kind of bike riding for me at the
moment. So I am getting wet in the pool instead.

Yeah, I wandered back in after a long absense and I agree, there's a
lot of trolls. I just ignore though.

Binky, it's good to have you back. Welcome.

OK, that's a tough question. There are two schools of thought here:
1. small and hard, just supporting your 'sit bones'
2. broader and softer.
I can't say one is better than another. I prefer 2, but I may have
wider than normal sit bones - as the weight came off it's become clear
I have lots of structural problems. You might want to try a gel saddle
or saddle cover; they're cheap enough.
While on the subject of fat men on bikes. the blog below strikes me as
fascinating.

But then that's no surprise, since I am the blogger.

I think the one I have now is of the first variety, tomorrow I'll make
little shopping trip to see if I can find a #2 style.

I had seen a couple of your posts there, looks like you're really
getting into biking, good for you! I'm enjoying the pictures of some of
the places you're riding!
