I never woke up during the night to eat (unless my blood sugar was low) but
I used to eat right up until I went to bed. Two years ago I started to
change things and lost weight (120 pounds or so), and I didn't have the urge
to eat at night any more and that lasted for well over a year. But for the
past several months I've been back to eating at night again, even when I'm
not hungry. I'm aware of what I'm doing but just don't care. I know the
tricks - brush your teeth, chew gum or a strong mint, drink water etc, but I
ignored them. I don't eat huge amounts of anything but I do eat small
amounts of many things. A piece of light string cheese or a chunk of fat
free mozzarella, a handful of baby carrots with some hummus, a few crackers,
a handful of high fiber cold cereal, some chocolate... A couple of hours of
that and the calories really add up.
For the past two nights I have managed to stop the late night snacking.
Tonight I am actually feeling hungry and don't know if I'll make it to bed
without having a snack. Last night wasn't bad at all, because my dinner was
very satisfying. The thing that is helping me with motivation is a flickr
group that someone just started, where she's taking pictures of every single
thing she eats all day. I've decided to do the same thing and it is
helping. If I tell myself I can't eat something unless I document it, I'm
less likely to eat it.
The group can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/photo-diet/
You don't have to have a flickr account to view it. You can sign in to
flickr if you have a Yahoo account, though.
