Did my usual morning run, then later met my friend Mary Anne for
lunch, a visit to her mom in the nursing home, and a little shopping.

Food:

* 8:15 (home): oatmeal w/ peanut butter, flax seed, & dates
* 12:30 (restaurant): salad w/ greens, olives, capers, slivered
almonds, & balsamic vinaigrette; 1/2 a small chocolate mousse (split
w/ Mary Anne); 2 glasses wine (Pinot Grigio)  {This wasn't enough
lunch, as their was no protein in the salad.  Through a
miscommunication, I thought I was ordering a salad that included
grilled chicken but it didn't work out that way.  But rather than just
fill up on dessert I decided to just share with MA and have something
later.}
* 3:30 (driving home -- picked up at a farm stand where I stopped for
some produce): 1 oz. beef jerky
* 7:00 (home): turkey burger on whole wheat bun w/ 3 slices f/f
cheese, dill pickle, & catsup

Exercise:

* 7:30: 3 mile run

Your dietary restraint is admirable but I have wondered about your
breakfast.  Do you put it all in a blender?  Do you cook the oatmeal
with water?  Are the flax seeds ground and cooked with the oatmeal?
How much peanut butter is involved and how do you add it to
oatmeal?  ???  I love the fact that you can manage a few glasses of
wine every day.

I use instant oatmeal -- just throw all the stuff in and microwave it,
and the peanut butter melts in the process.  I use Quaker Weight
Control oatmeal, which has added fiber.  It's pre-flavored (comes in
three varieties), but I add a little extra splenda.  I buy ground flax
seed, and use roughly a heaping teaspoon of natural chunky peanut
butter (just scoop up a spoonful -- comes out to a bit under an
ounce).  Everything gets cooked together -- takes just a couple of
minutes.  I like this very much and it's extremely filling (and a fair
number of calories, but not too much for a breakfast).

Wine is a major interest/hobby of mine, so it's important to me to
include it.  I'd rather make room in my diet for wine than for
dessert, in general.  Others' mileage may vary :-).  I drank wine
during the entire time I was losing weight as well, though not daily
-- usually just a couple of times a week.  I've gotten into the daily
wine more since I retired, as I have more leisurely evenings.
{Seriously, I'm fortunate in that I don't seem to have the tendency to
become addicted to it.  Every now and again I'll go without it for a
week or so and that doesn't bother me at all.}
