Hmm, it may not use height, although I have seen some that do. This is
the ArcTrainer that I am talking about. It is kind of like an
eliptical machine, but I like it much better. I can use it more
efficiently and I burn more calories with it than with the treadmill
or eliptical. Personal preference, but it's what I like. I'm trying to
think what exactly you input, but there's a few different things you
input so that it will be as accurate as possible for the calories you
have burned. It's pretty much just like any other newer, electric
workout machine where you can input your age, weight, level, etc..
I'm sure the treadmill you just bought is the same. The height, it
seems to me, would be used for letting the machine know what your
weight is in relation to your height, because obviously, if you are,
say for instance, 200 pounds and you are a male that's 6'3, that's
much different than for a female that's 5'5. You would burn calories
at a different rate, I'm thinking. Does that make sense?

No, I don't think that matters. Assuming an exercise is weight-
bearing (which this is), calorie-burning is relative to your overall
weight, but not to your weight/height ratio. I suppose there could be
some slight variation in calorie-burning depending on whether one's
body composition is higher or lower in fat vs. lean tissue (muscle,
bone, etc.), but if so I don't think it would be much. Anyway, no big
deal -- I've just never heard of height as a factor. (Age and gender
do make a difference, as they affect one's metabolic rate.)
If you've not seen it, you might find the website www.caloriesperhour.com
interesting.

I usually don't have to worry about calculating it because the machine
does it for me, but I could use that when I run around my subdivision
sometimes. Thanks!
