oh, I assure you that I am not way high. I use a high-tech machine at
my gym that calculates calories burned by age, weight, height,
intensity and length of your workout.  Ever seen this technology?

I've never seen a machine that uses height as an input, and am not
sure that it has any bearing on calories burned.  What machine is
this?

Hmm, it may not use height, although I have seen some that do. This is
the ArcTrainer that I am talking about. It is kind of like an
eliptical machine, but I like it much better. I can use it more
efficiently and I burn more calories with it than with the treadmill
or eliptical. Personal preference, but it's what I like. I'm trying to
think what exactly you input, but there's a few different things you
input so that it will be as accurate as possible for the calories you
have burned. It's pretty much just like any other newer, electric
workout machine where you can input your age, weight, level, etc..
I'm sure the treadmill you just bought is the same. The height, it
seems to me, would be used for letting the machine know what your
weight is in relation to your height, because obviously, if you are,
say for instance, 200 pounds and you are a male that's 6'3, that's
much different than for a female that's 5'5. You would burn calories
at a different rate, I'm thinking.  Does that make sense?

No, I don't think that matters.  Assuming an exercise is weight-
bearing (which this is), calorie-burning is relative to your overall
weight, but not to your weight/height ratio.  I suppose there could be
some slight variation in calorie-burning depending on whether one's
body composition is higher or lower in fat vs. lean tissue (muscle,
bone, etc.), but if so I don't think it would be much.  Anyway, no big
deal -- I've just never heard of height as a factor.  (Age and gender
do make a difference, as they affect one's metabolic rate.)

If you've not seen it, you might find the website www.caloriesperhour.com
interesting.

I usually don't have to worry about calculating it because the machine
does it for me, but I could use that when I run around my subdivision
sometimes. Thanks!

If it doesn't take into consideration heart rate, it may be a bit off.  I
don't know how much you weigh, but I have a polar heart rate monitor that
gives me calories burned based on sex, age, weight, and heart rate.  In 40
minutes of intense cardio I don't burn more than 320. I weigh 120, but if
you were considerably heavier, you'd burn more.  If you are losing weight in
line with your estimated calories though, that's all that matters.

now, Shau, I think a shot is 2 oz so 2 shots (you said a few, so maybe
more)so your vodka/dr pepper is 331 calories at least.  tut tut tut.
alcohol is oh so expensive calorie-wise.  But you were very good to
eat just 3 hershey kisses.

Nopey. I don't lie.  i don't know what calorie-checker you're using,
but it must be quite inaccurate. I get my calorie counts from
calorieking.com and it states 80 proof vodka is 64 calories per ounce.
You are probably right about the two ounces, so that would make it
128, actually less than I said, so I was a little high in my record.
If you are counting the Dr. Pepper as adding calories, you didn't pay
attention to my post- it states Diet Dr. Pepper. I only drink diet
drinks.

Seems like people are trying to catch me in a lie............for some
reason. Hm. Any reason why?
