Party issues

I've discovered that I just cannot control myself when I am around a lot
of food. Especially when it is available for grabs, like a buffet or
party snacks, I will eat *way* too much.

Beforehand I will agree to allow myself a certain amount of cake and
other snacks. But when I am actually there, I cannot stick to this. Even
if I feel full, my brain seems to force me to eat. It is as if I am
constantly fearing a famine will strike.

This is something that I've noticed in the past, and I can control it
well at home and at work by minimizing the amount of available food and
having plenty of distractions. However, my methods don't work for
parties. Any tips on how to deal with this, except for avoiding parties
altogether and becoming socially isolated?

TIA!

I like to eat a good healthy meal about one hour prior to a party. And
drink plenty of water. Then focus on the people there, not the food.
Also remind yourself of your goals prior to going in.

Yes, I will take a little of foods that strike me, trying mostly for
healthy choices, but if I'm well fed beforehand, it's easier not to go
overboard.
