I have a question. I have hashimotos and TSH that hovers around 3.0
(T4 and T3 well in normal range). Very few, very mild hypothyroid
symptoms if any at all. I was doing a lot of anxiety, palpitations,
weight loss, early menopause stuff for a couple years but it has
tapered off and I have been feeling wonderfully normal for the last
several months. I have gained a few pounds and a little extra body fat
over the last few months, but I think that's just because I've become
more "euthyroid." I'm not overweight though.

I didn't want to take the thyroid replacement when I was having all
the anxiety/palp/weight loss symptoms figuring it would make them even
worse. But lately, I have been considering asking to go on Synthroid
to reduce the chances of becoming full-blown hypothyroid later on. I
understand it can help reduce the Hashimoto's antibodies that are
attacking my thyroid.

My question is does taking the hormone replacement have any adverse
effect on the thyroid? Would having the extra T4 in my system cause my
thyroid to eventually stop working, or maybe die earlier, because my
pituitary won't be "talking to it" so much? Would this cause a need to
gradually increase my need for the Synthroid or do you think I could
maybe just stay on the low dosage?
