Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a few weeks and I did post a response to
another post but I never heard anything back so I'm going to ask everyone in
the newsgroup.
I'll be 42 in March. I'm 5'1 and weigh 201, I used to weigh 125. I'd be
happy to get down to 150. I'm very interested in Dr. Phil's diet. Gloria
had posted a message about her weight loss results but she never responded
to my response post, nor did anyone else.
How good is Dr. Phil's diet? I've tried Atkins & South Beach and neither
really helped me all that much. I'd like to try Dr. Phil's diet and get to
150 by the end of June.
Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Judi

Hi Judi, sorry, Dr. Phil's diet won't work any better than Atkins or
South Beach. Sorry. It turns out that NO DIET WORKS... YOU have to do
all the work. Here are the steps:
1. Eat less
2. Exercise more
3. Repeat
4. Forever
We can help you in implementing these four steps - each has their own
struggles and experimentation - but we can't convince you to just do
them: you've got to decide to do what it takes to lose the weight.
There is no other way.

Hi Judi,
What Dally says - read it again:
1. Eat less
2. Exercise more
3. Repeat
4. Forever
My stats are very close to yours - you're younger and an inch taller so
maybe it will be a little easier. I changed the way I ate and started
walking in February '02. It took me until August to lose 50 pounds. I
was walking 8 miles a day by then.
Go for it!

Dr. Phil's diet will work if it makes you eat less and healthier food,
and get you to exercise.
Getting to 150 by the end of june means that you want to lose 51
pounds in 4.5 months, or 11.33 lbs per month. Doable, but quite
possibly too quick for you. If you lose 30 lbs by June 1, you will be
doing just great.
Why didn't atkins and south beach work for you? It is actually
important.

Stop trying diets and plan a different way of life that
will be healthy. Start exercising and eat a variety of
foods, especially those with plenty of fiber. If you
have no idea how that differs from the way you're eating
now, keep track of everything you eat and drink for about
a month and let us know what the trends are. We can
suggest healthy substitutes for the not-so-good-for-you
things you eat. But while you're keeping the diary, start
exercising and plan to make it a daily habit.

I'm so sorry I never got back to yu, judy! Sometimes I just get busy and
don't go to ASD for a while but I REALLY wished I had seen your post!
I'm loving Dr Phil very much and what a wonderful plan he shows us. I
borrowed his big book from the library and I have gotten great help. I'm
spending a lot of time reading as well as digesting his words:)
Best to you, judi.
Let me know how you are doing!

Gloria,
No big, but I did send you a copy of the post. I will pick up a copy of
Dr. Phil's book. Believe me I'm no fan of his, especially after the E true
story I watched several months back.
To the others on the newsgroup I've read some of your earlier posts on
different topics and actually had a good laugh about some of the stuff I
read. I think this will be a fun place to stop in and chat.

Hi Judi,
First off I read and really like Dr. Phil's book "The Ultimate Weight
Solution". He doesn't have a diet, I mean there is no diet called The Dr.
Phil Diet that I know of anyway. He writes about how we program ourselves
to where we get to being obese and shows you new ways of thinking so that
you don't use food for comfort. Dr. Phil doesn't propose people go on a
diet. He proposes that people get real about why they are overweight and do
something about it, and for the most part that means changing the way you
eat for life. There's a lot more to it than I can put in this email, but I
would recommend it to anyone serious about losing weight.
I don't know much about Atkins or South Beach, but I've heard good things
about them. I don't know why they wouldn't help you lose weight. Do you
exercise daily? If not, that may be the thing you need to help you start
losing weight.
I wish you luck on losing weight and hope to see more posts from you in
the future. I started August 27, 2003 changing the way I eat and exercising
and have lost 78 pounds so far and feel great. I'm sure you will too if you
decide to jump on the bandwagon.
Sincerely,
Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the support. about my dieting. I use a stationary bike and
I walk. I'm getting a 21 speed bike in a few weeks. my problem is after
exercising I'll drink soda and not water then later I eat chips, candy or
whatever I have a craving for, especially after 6pm.
I don't currently own a scale or I'd become obsessed with weighing all
the time. I'm also going to join a gym since my employer gives us discounts
to various gyms around town. thanks again for the advice and support.

Judi,
I am like you as I want to eat EVERYTHING after 6 PM. I am reading Dr
Phil and I needed his words. My eating problems are 'in my head' and
this is why Dr Phil's book helps.
Judi, you CAN do this! WE WILL succeed. Failure IS NOT AN OPTION!!
keep close to here and I'm watching for your posts!

Hi Judy,
Do this...limit your soda to one per day and diet soda at that. Also
instead of eating chips, candy, and such start eating vegetables and fruit.
You can do it, and if you want to lose weight you will do it. Your body
wants it and needs it. You want the candy and stuff, but only you can
control it so make a plan to change and stick with it.
If you fall, just get back up. Must of us fall, and we get back up. It's
when you don't get back up that you gain the weight back and then some.
You go girl,
Paul

Hi, Judi- I tried to send you an email but it didn't go through. I have been
on Dr Phil's plan for some time and I really love it. I've lost from 300 down
to 160. I have an internet group that I've started with several family
members. We cover a chapter a week, or sometime spend 2 weeks discussing a
chapter in the first book, The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge. I don't pretend
to be any expert on his plan or anyone elses, but I would be glad to share some
ideas if you would like to email me. Beverly B

Hi Judy my name is matthew. My wife Destiny and myself have been involved in
diets and exercise for many years have found plans that work well. We also are
involved in a small supplement business that earns a little extra money. Two
weeks ago our company offered only ten of us in the intire company to test
market a diet support supplement. I can offer you 90 days free. If you are
interested in the qualifications e-mail me back. I can also send you a great
diet plan free even if you are not interested in the supplement.
