Doesn't that just say it all? I got my "permanant vacation" slip on
Friday - after finally completing a long, hellish tax project. And although
I'm not wallowing in self-pity, I did have a piece of cheesecake after
dinner that night. And again Saturday, and Sunday, and....well at least the
cheesecake is gone now! I ususally lose weight during stress - so for me
the hardest thing to do right now is keep eating. I've sent out over 50
resumes just since Friday, and fortunately, my unenjoyment check will be
enough for me to scrape by on while I'm searching for a new job. I really
hate this... But there is a silver lining! My house is SPOTLESS.

I'm really sorry to hear about the job loss. I received one of those 8
years ago and it turned out for the best. I found a better job a couple of
weeks later and I'm still at it and love it. Hopefully you'll have the
same experience.
Glad to hear the cheesecake is gone. If you need another house to work off
the stress mine is available<g>

Oh dear--how awful! Good luck on your job search, take care of
yourself and the little one, and stay out of the cheesecake now
that you've had your one slice.

I am very sorry to hear about the lay-off. I am sure that you'll be able to
find another job w/ out a problem, as you are a very "determined" person. I
would avoid dessert though, as you don't want your interview clothes getting
tight. Best wishes...

Sorry to hear that determined... I am sure that you will find a job
relatively soon. Meanwhile, try exercising to keep your mind off sad
thoughts.

Well I certainly can sympathize. i've had a few pink slips in my
working years and cheesecake is my antidote of choice to just about
everything.
Try this as it isn't very fattening:
1 egg
3 oz. pressed cottage cheese
1/4 cup plain yogurt
sweetener of choice
1/2 tsp vanilla
Process until smooth with wand type hand blender in deep narrow
container. Pour into ungreased onion soup dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Cool and refrigerate.

Hello det,
I'm sorry to hear about the job loss. Hopefully things will turn around
soon for you. I'm in the same boat, looking for work that is. Luckily I
have a friend who's trying to get me on where he works. After being out of
work for two and a half years I'm ready to get back.
Take care,
Paul

2 1/2 years??? Ooh, that doesn't sound very encouraging... What do you do
for a living? I'm a bookkeeper...

Bummer about the job, good that you aren't wallowing. I'm wallowing in pms
pity right now with back cramps so bad that I can't run and can barely walk.
Enough about me and back to you...
It's great that you've already got resumes out there - were you expecting
this?
My cheesecake substitute is cottage cheese, in the blender for a quick pulse
or two, then add some splenda and some berries (or some unsweetened cocoa
powder).
Take advantage of being able to exercise whenever the mood strikes instead
of having to plan it around your schedule. Hope something comes up for you
soon.

Cramps suck! And I have those too........ I wasn't expecting the layoff,
but I knew what to do Friday when I got home. I didn't even have internet
at home because I had access to it all day at work. I got it turned back
on, fine tuned the resume, and went to the website of our local newspaper.
Nowdays, almost every listing has an email address to reply to and you can
get alot of resumes out in a short period of time. I'm lucky - I had just
consolidated my debt, and I can live on unemployment without going bankrupt.

That is a good thing--DH got layed off last week (he's a union
carpenter) and while his layoffs are usually very short term--two
to three weeks--it's hard to make that switch from a full
paycheck to half (or third) pay.
Good luck on your job hunt.

Remember, though that very, very few jobs (and not the best ones) are in the
newspaper want ads. I got my job through Hotjobs, which is a great resource
for work. Also Monster.com is another one.

This could be your golden opportunity, det!
It wasn't until I lost the best paying job I ever had that we buckled
down to save the money we needed to move to Maine. It was the best thing
that ever happened to me - even though it sure didn't feel like it at the
time.

I have never left a job that I missed later on, and I've always taken a step
up. This is going to be an opportunity to learn and grow - again!

I had that happen several years ago. I was really surprised to find out
that the slip was really pink!
I was officially 'realigned' meaning that my department had no more need for
me. I indulged in vodka that night. I was fortunate to receive several
months salary as severance which gave me time to build my own consulting
business. Since then, I am spectacularly happy with my career. It occurs
to me that many people can say that! As bad as it feels, try to remember
that whenever one door closes, others open.
You may have indulged in a little cheesecake but at least now you have time
to exercise:)
Hope the job search goes well!

Many people who have lost their jobs seem to land another that is much
better. When I got my pink slip 9 years ago I had to restrain myself from
jumping up and shouting "It's about time". I was so glad to be out of
there. They callled 80+ employees into the cafeteria and told us we had one
hour to gather our things and be out of the building. We're talking about
long time employees. I had 26 years with the company and there were some in
the group who had been there as long as 40 years. I left there with 6
months salary and a big smile on my face. Many of us stopped at a local bar
and celebrated. They called a few days later and wanted to know if I would
consider working as a contractor for awhile. I told them no amount of money
could make me come back to that place. I landed my current job two weeks
later and it's the best move I ever made.

I wish I could share in all the optimism, but I was laid off in
2001 and I'm still unemployed, despite (conservative estimate)
1500-2000 resumes. I started two small companies to try to make a
living that way, both failed. Back to the resumes, send out 5 or 6
every day, not one interview or even phone call in over six months.
Anybody But Bush.
Hope things go better for you.

woo hoo! I go back to work tomorrow - at a new place. Took a bit of a cut
in pay, but will be above where I was in 6 months. Plus, it's an exciting
field that will give me lots of challenge.

Congratulation on the new job, det. Taking a cut in pay isn't so bad if you
like the new job and it has more opportunities. Good luck with the new
position.
