I'm getting my 'old' cravings for the SF ice cream and it's sitting
there in my fridge so I decided I needed it last night plus today. I ate
about 1 cup both times and stopped. I think maybe I'll not get this
again as I ate it several times at night . Is it a good food? WHY is it
good OR bad ? I have had this argument with myself so many times. I LOVE
ice cream ! Should I eat this? Should I chuck it? Should I eat it ? Get
rid of it? OK everyone KNOWS what I'm saying here. Please tell me your
oppinions!

If you can control yourself, then get it.  Ice cream is one of my triggers
so I only get very small packages of it.  If I ever bought a half gallon,
I'd eat a half gallon that week.

It took you a week to eat that half gallon?  I could have polished that off
in a day<g>   I don't keep ice cream in the house either.  I've never tried
any of the lower calorie versions as I only liked one kind - cherry
cordial.  If I want it now I have to make a special trip to the ice cream
store and then I buy a one dip cone.

Yes I can imagine. I have done that. Ummmmm I wasnt skinny by no means
though. :) KUDOS for throwing out the temptation. I'm not to sure how
some of you feel about sugar free jello. But I will cut up an apple into
cubes and pour SF jello over it and have that as a snack if I get hungry
say after 7:30pm or so. Through the day I will have one with some FF
cottage cheese makes an excellent dessert.

I keep the sugar free jello for those times when I feel I want something
sweet.  I stir in a couple spoons of whipped topping and it seems to
satisfy me and it's around 80 calories.

bit of topping on it and it really helped me a lot. Beverly THANKs for

Considering it doesn't have any fat in it, what good is it doing your
bicycle?  I take better care of my bikes and would never consider using
anything but the best to maintain them.

Do you shop for other bike maintance equipment in the grocery<g>

I kind of liked CW before, but recently I read its list of
ingredients, and unfortunately, I have to agree with Steve Knight. I
still have a tub of it sitting in my freezer since before my dieting
days, I think that I will try giving it to my chickens, and if they do
not eat it (most likely they won't), to the garbage it goes.

I tend to use low fat or no fat cottage cheese on the side when eating
jello. You can always just add cinnomon and splenda to the CC and have a
sweet snack by its self too. Good source of protien too!

I like fruit with my cottage cheese.  I've never tried jello and cottage
cheese.  Might give it a try next time.

I had a friend who always lined the bottom of the bowl with cottage cheese
before adding chili.  That's one I never thought would taste good and never
gave it a try<g>

I've done both (jello and CC, chili and CC) and it's quite good.  I
sometimes mix my fiber one cereal with cottage cheese instead of yogurt -
topped with a little Walden Farms SF chocolate syrup.  I'll mix just about
anything with cottage cheese.  It also makes a nice sauce when whipped in
the blender with some herbs.

MMMM I know what you mean. I like to take LF/FFCC and blend it with
tomatoe and basal with a little garlic. Voila! A very nice side sause to
eat with baked chicken breast. I also like the same as above over fresh
asperagus too! OK now I'm hungry. peace!

Steve, it's *cool whip* for goodness sake.  It's food - not nuclear
waste.  Just meant to be a pretty little treat on top of jello.  I prefer
real whipped cream myself, but I doubt anyone's going to eat enough to
hurt themselves.

Chocolate makes me happy - don't start in on that, ok?  I'd have to hurt

novenber or early december of that year. So around 15 months or so. I
really didnt follow anything specific in the beginning. Basicly very
low calorie. Now I stick to a more healthy calorie deficit and exercise.

Chuck it.  Don't buy any more for at least a month.  Ice cream
is high in fat and refined sugar.  Many kinds also have lots of
chemicals.  If you want something frosty made from milk, put
some fat free yogurt in the freezer for a while.

A serving of ice cream is technically 1/2 cup.  I never eat that little.  So
I rarely eat it because I can't just eat 1/2 cup.  If you can't control
yourself - get it out of the house.  Sugar free ice cream is not bad or
good.  If you go over your calories because you eat too much of it, then you
need to keep it out of the house.  Take advice and just treat yourself
occasionally with a single scoop at the ice cream store.

Det, you are so right. I NEVER can stop eating at one serving.
Thanks for the post.

Really?  I always eat that little.  I'm after the mouth feel, the taste,
not a half hour of face-stuffing.  I use a pyrex custard cup and scoop
out about two scoops (maybe a bit more if the scoop wasn't full.)

I'm pretty sure we have ice cream in the house.  We've got three
freezers in the house and I often buy what's on sale.  We don't eat it
often but we do have it occasionally.  I sometimes buy "Light" versions
of premium brands but just as often I buy the premium kind.  I have half
a cup sometimes when I particularly want it.  I think I've had ice cream
twice in the past month.

My real problem food these days are mixed nuts.  My husband likes to
have a container of those lying around and I will rush by and scoop out
a handful and start craving the salt and go for another handful and then
it leads to me realizing I'm hungry and I can get a quick bite if I just
eat another handful... it's a case of a convenient, tasty, high calorie
food standing in between me and a better choice.  I really hate having
an open can of mixed nuts on my counter.

I wish I could be like that, but I don't have that much self contol.  It is
best that I don't have any of it... as I am an all or nothing person when it
comes to dessert items.

I love mixed nuts!  Those are one snack food that I don't overindulge in.
They do make low sodium packaged nuts as well... I used to buy them.

Well, I always thought 1 scoop was 1/2 cup...  I also use a pyrex custard
cup for my ice cream!  But I'm pretty sure it's not just 1/2 cup, at least
when I'm doing the scooping...  But I'm not talking about a half hour of
face stuffing either (thanks alot).  I only eat ice cream about once a
week - and I eat as much as I want, which is usually just the one larg-ish
serving.

We always have an open can of mixed nuts, peanuts, or both.  If I'm
going to have some I weigh out 28g (1 oz) into a little pyrex cup and
eat them :-)

I got into a real binge from the SF ice cream . The reason I'm telling
everyone is because if I ever ask about this SF ice cream again PLEASE
remember to say , "glo you STOP that !! Do NOT eat that SF STUFF !!" It
does not work for me! I'm back to healthy eating after two crappy days.
Thanks for all the inputs here!!!!!!

As long as you can afford the calories for the day, go ahead and have
some.  For that matter, you can have regular ice cream if you account
for the calories.  You need to pay attention to how much you're eating
each day, not just have some "ok" foods and some "not ok" foods.  You
can get fat eating "ok" foods if you eat enough of them, and you can
fit "not ok" foods into a healthy diet.

I do have ONLY sugar free plus low fat ice cream but I seem to want it
often. It only takes a few days to get the half gallon gone! I just love
it very much and I'm taking advice from Paul here. I'll get it out of my
house and buy no more. Also Beverly was saying that to buy a cone is
good. One dip while at the store. I KNOW you are correct. I just hated
to admit that my one and only 'wrong' food needs to go!
Wrong for me as it gets me eating badly. Thanks guys!!
I'm on my way to throw it in the garbage and it ain't fun. It's this
tuff luv like someone said about facing the scale. Get tough is a GOOD
THING HERE!
Now back to reality and I'm looking at myself AGAIN:))  <G>

I'm late on the bandwagon here...but....good job on the chucking of the
ice cream.  That'd be my suggestion.

I love ice cream too.  It's a trigger food for me.  Fat free, sugar free,
it doesn't matter.  Ice cream of any variety is arguably neither good nor
bad, but if it has control over you, then it IS bad and needs to be
avoided.  Even if you can fit a serving into your calorie limit for the
day, if you can't stop at one serving, it doesn't matter.  Ditch it.

I have a big problem with open containers of ice cream.  If there's a half
gallon, I can leave it alone until it's been dipped into, but after that it's
fair game, and then I'm constantly in it until it's gone, even if it's the
grossest kind in the world.  Tiny individual containers help a LOT though.
I've had Smart Ones sundae cups (1 cup/150 calories each container) in
the freezer for a month now.  I had one when I was really craving some ice
cream, but I haven't even opened the others.  They taste good but it's
just not as much fun to dip into them, which is great for those of us who
are grazers.

Best of luck,
Alison (who fortunately loves steamed broccoli as much as ice cream and
now chooses to keep that around instead)

Alison, Thanks MUCH for this great input. I guess that you DO understnd
! I'm better now that I have NO ice cream here at all.
I'm thinking that IF I really crave it I just might try ONE Healthy
choice in the cup. Do they come just ONE? I can't bring anymore than one
into my home at once.

Count me as one of the "real food" type people. We rarely have ice cream in
the house, but I do have ice cream "out" perhaps twice a year.  When I have
it, I want the real thing.  The "sugar free and fat free" stuff just doesn't
work for me at all.
