Glo, please don't be discouraged at this point. How long since you
were last on the scale before this? If you've decided to follow Dr
Phil then stay with him and see what happens over a slightly longer
period.

Gloria........If you've been sticking to eating less then it's not fat. In
order to gain 3 to 4 pounds of fat you would have had to eat around 10,500
to 14,000 *excess* calories than you burned. That's calories above what you
normally eat to maintain. That's a huge amount of food!
You're most likely retaining water which can happen for a lot of different
reasons.....hormones, meds, by eating something salty, not drinking enough
water, etc.
Don't get discouraged by a number. Have faith in yourself. If you know
you've been eating less then believe in that not a number on a scale.

Gloria, it's likely just water weight. In the scheme of things, a few
pounds of water weight either way doesn't make a difference. But if
you want to see the scale change soon, you might try cutting way back
on sodium for a few days and drinking lots of water.

Chris, the drinking water HIT ME:) I'm NOT drinking as I need to and I'm

salt. I feel much better and I'm keeping on this!!! THANX soooo much for

Yes, it was me. And thanks -- I am pretty proud, considering where I

I so know where your comming from here. Like all others suggested, it's
most likely water. I have those days when I'll wake up and go wiegh and
BOOM I'm up 2-4 pounds. Like someone else said its nearly impossible to
gain that kind of weight in a couple of days if your eating right.
Sometimes it can take me almost a week to get 2-4 pounds of water
retention flushed out of my body! I just do so by drinking more and
watching my sodium intake. The software I use allows me to set my food
intake to low sodium and alerts me when I've broken my limit. Buttttt. I
tend ot eat alot of canned foods and unfortunately they are packed full
of sodium so I'm usually over by about 4 times my limit daily. :( No
need to get discouraged. Hang in there and this will pass and you will be
happy you did nothing drastic. Like eat a whole large pizza and a box of
doughnuts! :)~ hehe. Good job on your success so far. Keep motivated!!!!!

PLEASE have measurements done, or find a TIGHT pair of jeans, or

Yes guys, it is a terrible feeling to be UP by measure of my scales! BUT
I'm up just 2 today and I DIDN'T do drastic things like eat a carton of
Ice-cream:( but I'm reading EVERY WORD you gys have written and hey, you
have gotten me through :) this without too much turmoil. I have STUCK
like glue to everything and than HIGHER WEIGHT and it is NOT a good
site. Janice told me to beware of my scales and to NOT weigh often and
Rosie told me caution too. Yes I need to go by my BETTER looser jeans!!
ALL of you have helped me sooo much as I hated to get ot of bed today
and THAN I SEE these great words that are getting me through AGAIN!
Thank you !!!!!!!! I'm at 185 and i was 183 for about 5 days. I'll TRY
to leave my scale alone and it is NOT easy but I'll try.

Just be aware that sometimes when someone is retaining a lot of water, it
can make jeans feel a bit tighter. Especially if the jeans are fresh out of
the dryer and it's near that TOM! I get fooled by that sometimes. I just
have to trust that by staying on the good WOE that it's not fat and that it
will pass. I'd hate for you to get discouraged by something like that.

I too am a compulsive eater glo. A binge eater as well.I'm a night time
eater. An emotional eater. I just love food. I think I am one of those
people who never get that full feeling.(unless I do binge).... People
likw us have to keep aware and keep those urges in check for the rest of
our lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.Sometimes it is hard but we
learn to recognize the signs and adjust accordingly. A sign for me is
when I go to the cabnets and start looking through them, even though I'm
not hungry. I make myself go outside and walk around the house a few
times until the urge is gone. I also (had) a bad habit of opening the
fridge everytime i walked passed it and just looked inside to see what I
could eat. If I truly must have something I eat an apple or some cottage
cheese or both. But to be honest from the time I added a good snack in
between my main meals I really don't get the urges as bad anymore. My
worse times are when I wake at 3am. ugggg. Keep up the good work. You are
worth it!

You have said it very well and I could repeat your experience word for
word, except that my overeating did not end up in qualitatively as bad
binges as other people would report.
Self control is the key. Once an overeater, always an overeater -- but
possibly under self control.

I'm better in several ways now. I'm obsess so bad over food! I can't

Think of yourself that you will always be a compulsive overeater... So
you need to exercise self control at all times.

Glo, as you know I suffer from a serious binge eating problem. I have
said here many times that I don't believe I'm ever going to be cured,
just in remission. Perhaps you need to look at it that way rather
than expect too much of yourself. I work on making the periods of
remission longer and longer and I hope one day it will be behaviour I
have managed to subdue, but I know it will always be lurking in the
background.
Keep at it, you've done so well with your weight loss already.

Paul - 22 Feb 2004 17:20 GMT
Hi Glo,
Wow you got a lot of input huh? I agree if you weigh 2,3, or 4 pounds
more a day later it's more than likely some residual food and a lot of water
weight. Don't get discouraged, I know it's easier said than done, but you
will see that your weight is back soon and after you go through this routine
several times you'll start being more comfortable and know what's going on
with your body.
Yesterday I did so well with eating, I had cereal for breakfast, salad
with chicken for lunch and dinner. After church then visiting my mom, we
wanted a scoop of ice cream. We visited a place I'd never been to before
and I order an ice cream dish that had 3 scoops of ice cream and had bananas
and nilla wafers in it and I was disappointed with myself after doing so
well that day. But I realized that this is not my normal routine, plus I
had walked over five miles yesterday, so I had a great workout and am not
going to worry about it anymore.
Anyway I'm sure your going to make it through this and be back on your way
to a healthier body.
Take care,
Paul

Well, I log everything. I decided that nothing is "forbidden" and that
being good meant being *honest* with my food log. Well, that actually
does keep me really honest food-wise too because if I don't want to
write it down, I don't eat it. It's kinda backwards in a way :-/ Also,
if I do get slightly off track and I write it down, I can "make up for
it" latter. Anyway, I understand what you mean about being disappointed
in yourself. That's how I feel when I write something down that I ate
and realize that I should have eaten =:-o

Gloria,
You need to stop obsessing so much!
You KNOW it was because of the food you ate on Friday. You've been
around here long enough and had your own experiences yourself to know
that even one day of crappy food can show up on the scale - BUT!!!
that is just a temporary water increase and it is NOT true weight.
Stop obsessing!
