Hello,
In the last 6 months I lost about 40 lb. through diet and exercise
two days ago I found out I am pregnant (after 4 years of trying). I want to
know where I can find information on what kind of exercise I can do now, I
do not want to gain all my previous weight back, just what's recommended.
If you have any good web site please post.
Thank you in advance

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Talk to your doctor.

In most cases, (depending on your health) your doctor will tell you to
continue your fitness routine right on through.

WHen I was pg w/ ds (10yrs old), I played tennis until I was 6.5m. pg.
At that point my belly was changing and threw off my balance and that
type of activity became dangerous (in my opinion).  I didn't want to
take a fall.

But, many women will continue exercise right on through, even if it
means slowing down to a good brisk walk a few times a week as the
lovebump grows.

If you already are exercising, then you can continue.   What *they*
generally advise against is that for someone who isn't used to
exercising to pick up exercising once they become pg, or to take on
some new impact sport.

As for eating.   Just because you ahve a lovebump, doesn't mean you
are eating for 2.   For the first couple trimesters your calorie
increase really should be minimal.   Its only closer towards the end
of your pregnancy that you truely require a bit more food.     So,
don't take advantage on the situation.

Do what you feel you are comfortable with.

Here's an article on Krista's web site (an excellent site overall, if
you haven't run into it) about weight training during pregnancy:

In general, you can continue whatever you've been
doing.  The general recommendation (which is probably overly
conservative, especially for atheletes) is that you shouldn't
get your heart rate up too high (if you can still talk, you're
probably okay) and that you should avoid activities where your
changing center of gravity increases the risk of injury
(e.g., cycling, etc.).

Best wishes,
Ericka

Ask your obstetrician.  Walking should be good.

Again, the general consensus on exercise during pregnancy is to continue
what you had been doing before as long as it is comfortable, but to not
start any new programs.

Exercising Through Your Pregnancy by James F. Clapp III

Exercise is good for both you as well as your child. Obviously place
some emphasis on safety, but, say, walking, some strength training
etc, especially with safe machines, exercising with elliptical, is
quite beneficial.

There are some concerns about the baby not getting enough oxygen if
you exercise too hard, so don't exercise too hard.

There is no benefit to either you or your baby if you overeat. So,
just eat nutritious foods, don't eat junk, and watch your calories
reasonably, allowing enough for the baby at later stages. Our doc was
quite assured when he said that the baby gets enough nutrition under
almost all scenarios. It makes sense to me as well. Try to eat enough
greens etc, to get your folic acid and other vitamins from them, it is
better than pills (which you can still take as a supplement).

Congrats on having a baby, when he or she grows old enough to unroll
all toilet paper in your home, you will have a lot of fun.

I can't help you with this one Ronnie since I'm a guy, but I would recommend
speaking with your doctor before any exercise regimen.

Congratulations on losing the 40 pounds and for your pregnancy.
