Elise, Stuart, and I are heading down to Hampton, VA this afternoon
for tomorrow's meet. (I'm taking the day off from work, as we want to
get there in time to have dinner and a relaxing evening.)
This time I'm not going to go through the dehydrating and partial fast
thing that I did last time. I didn't really need to worry about
weight then either but did it partly as an experiment. This week,
since I've been maintaining at 158 all week, I'm sure I'm not going to
suddenly balloon up to over 165 for tomorrow morning's weigh in. I'm
still going to be eating moderately and watching sodium today, though,
just to be secure about it. (I get nervous enough about lifting :-).)
Unfortunately, I seem to have come down with another cold as of
Wednesday night. But it's not too bad -- may keep me from feeling as
"on" as I might, but probably won't affect my strength. (I'm more
likely to mess up because of nerves than because of health. It's
amazing: I can stand up and speak in front of 1000 people with no
nervousness, but tossing a bar overhead with an audience of 25 is
enough to freak me out! It's just that it's so all-or-nothing, I
guess.)

the next best thing to being clever, is being able to quote someone
who is.

Have a good meet Chris! I think that nervousness before a meet (or in my
case a race) is probably normal. Most people I know that participate in
some type of athletic competition get nervous or anxious in one way or
another. Speaking in front of 1000 people is almost predictable once you've
done it - though there's always a chance of something interesting happening
like tripping over one's feet (not like that's ever happened to me *cough*).
Anyway, the nerves are probably your body's way of getting ready for what it
knows is coming. It's that boost of adrenal hormones in preparation for
battle. Soldier on!
