My daughter and I are thinking about visiting SF this fall.  What is the
best time of year to visit?  I imagine we'll be visiting around the
Fisherman Wharf's area and doing the regular tourist attractions.  I doubt
I'll rent a car so I'll be depending on tours for getting around town.
We'll be flying into SFO.  I received a free round trip ticket for taking a
bump on my Florida trip and this is where the airline operates.

Any suggestions on "must see" attractions in that area?

Thanks

Any time of year is nice here. : )  The fall is our summer, so September
through October is nice and has tendency to be warm. But, always dres in
layers, as San Francisco itself can be 20 degrees cooler than the outlaying
areas. (Our "natural" air conditioning, the fog keeps us cool and our air
clean.)

Must sees...there are so many. Let's see:
- Walking around Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Downtown, Nob Hill, along the
Embarcadero.
- Maybe take in a Giants' game at Pacbell Park
- Ferry Building Farmers' Market
- Golden Gate Park
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Ferry to Sausalito
- Napa Valley wine country
- Muir Woods (redwood trees)
- Ocean Beach
- Drive along the coast on Highway 1 south towards Santa Cruz
- Hikes in hundreds of great trails and parks
- Haight/Ashbury
- South of Market
- SOMA Museum (modern art)
- Asian Art Museum
- Thousands of incredible restaurants of any style you can think of
including

Also:
Getting around town, unless you're going across town or out of town, it is
sometimes easier to take public transportation. Check out the MUNI website
and you can get a map online. SF is quite small, actually, and with our
hills, you'll get a great workout walking around. : )

Also, pick up one of the free travel papers available near the hotels.

There is never a shortage of things to do here for every person's tastes.
The thing is, there's never enough time to do it all!

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me, I'd be
happy to help.

Alcatraz, Angel island, Point Lobos (Carmel, 90 minuntes south).
There were some of my favorites when I lived there.  Early October
is beautiful, but bring quick-change clothing like Martha said!
