A great site for learning about supplements is www.lef.org, it's the
"life extension foundation".

Salmon oil specificaly is full of certain fatty acids that our bodies
need and cannot produce by themselves. Not that many foods supply some
of these fatty acids. Salmon oil is a good source of them.
That said, why can't she simply eat salmon, is a legitimate question.
Vitamin E and C in combination have been shown to work well to prevent
dementias such as Alzheimer's.
It seems like she chose relatively sensible supplements.
I have no comment on AASA and lecithin.

If a person eats right, they don't need supplements except
possible a pregnant woman under doctor's prescription. I
don't take any supplements.

Trouble is that most of us don't have a perfect diet, so taking a
supplement can help fill in the gaps.

Some people in this newsgroup receive all necessary nutrients in their
diets.
That said, it appears that higher than RDA doses of vitamin E are
actually helpful. Thusly, I occasionally take a vitamin E.

Yes, there's a lot of debate on various vitamins. But E seems
universally praised. I take it too, though my nutritionist just me
that they are recommending people take no more than 400mg per day. I
know that if I take more than 200, I get zits!

You get zits in what way?
I bought a big jar of vitamin E pills at Sam's Club, and then realized
that the 1000mg doze is too much. So, I take these pills about 3x per
week, instead of every day.

That would probably work. Taking evry day gave me too much skin
oil and it's consequences!

Are sure its was the E ?. Kelp tablets used to make
my skin quite oily and results in several facial "zits".
Kelp tablets are an iodine source.
As people age, the their skin gets "too dry" and thus produces
too little vitamin D. That is to say the aging skin tends to have too
little cholesterol in, on, or near the surface to be converted into vitamin
D
by the action of UV light..

Do pregnant women who eat right, need supplementation?

Once upon a time, our fellow Patricia Heil
rambled on about "Re: Lecithin, Salmon Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C &
ASA."
Our champion De-Medicalizing in sci.med.nutrition retorts, thusly ...
>If a person eats right, they don't need supplements
Ha, ... Hah, Ha!
I like the way you don't define 'right' or 'need.' That way you don't
have to put your butt on the line.
Just my opinion. But, I am *right* as usual!
William A. Noyes - 09 Mar 2004 09:58 GMT
That is an over-generalization. Nor is it an accepted view among the
semi-progressive nutritionists. A fertile females should be taking
a folic acid supplement all during their fertile years. Moreover, you
seem to think your physician is qualified on the topic of nutrition.
I got news for you, he isn't at least by his education.
That you don't take supplements, proves nothing.

...
Even "IF you eat right," does that mean:
...you absorb everything you eat?
...you never get sick?
...you never die?
Consider a thousand people who eat EXACTLY the same:
...do they all equally tolerate the foods consumed?
...do they all end up with the same diseases?
...do they all end up dying at the same age?
Have you ever noticed:
...how some people get sick more often despite taking supplement?
...how many medical conditions are listed in a medical dicitionary?
...how many different drugs are used for the same diseases?

That's because you are smugly ignorant.

A doctor knows all about supplementation too from the 15 seconds they
studied in medical school.

She do better to take the granular forms.
About a tablespoon. The 1200 mg of oily
lecithin capsules is an expensive way to get choline
and inositol as compared to the bulk
granular lecthin.

Get a gamma rich E supplement. They are get more popular and
easier to find. I've take 1200 IU of E for over 35 years.

Do you eat sardines and cold water wild fish?
One would do well to reduce most types
refined vegetable oils, beef fat, pork fat,
and poultry fat. Eat the raw nuts, and
wild captured cold water fish.
A diet in omega three oils makes one less
prone to inflammation and makes one less prone
to DVTs and other unwanted blood clots.
