Ignoramus21909 - 10 Mar 2004 21:26 GMT If you knew, with complete certainty, that you will die in 3 months, would you give up your diet and eat anything you want in any quentity you want?
My answer: yes

Essentially it breaks down to - no, I probably wouldn't change my eating habits because I'm happy with those habits I have.
But, the thing would be that where I might not indulge in a dessert every nigth now, as I know that in the long run it would cause weight gain, if I were going to die in 3 months, I wouldn't be as worried about long term weight gain and if I felt like dessert, I'd eat it.
Its kinda like my recent vacation. The difference I made while on a 3 week vacation was that I found I was eating 3 square meals a day (larger breakfast and lunch than usual) but at the same time I was much mroe physically active too. The result was a 5lb gain in 3 weeks. In the grand scheme of things, I'm not too worried.
I indulged in sweets when I felt like. But ya know - all the food was available whenever I wanted it, and its not like I found I was a total glutton and ate everything that was available. At breakfast, even though donuts and muffins and sweets and fatty foods were available, my usual choice was: a small bowl of fiber cereal w/ some yogurt (instead of milk). an english muffin w/ butter and jam.
Whereas at home, I usually wouldn't have the english muffin. I could have had pancakes and waffles and french toast and eggs benedict, and sausage, and bacon, and you name it!

janice - 11 Mar 2004 09:18 GMT I don't know that I'd go into a binge mode as there'd be so many other things I'd be trying to fit in. However, I think I'd probably eat all my favourite foods, without having to worry about longer term effects on my body so without regard to fat or sugar content. There's something of the "condemned man's last meal" about this.

What I would do, though, is have a little fun with one of those highly addictive illicit drugs that cuts short life. Even if I got busted with heroin, my trial date wouldn't be until after my death:)

But I'm not sure eating would be a big focus for me in that situation. I think I'd have other priorities, and probably not a lot of appetite. For me, overeating has always been something I do to celebrate and be happy, and I don't think I'd be in that frame of mind. I think it's more likely I'd end up losing weight.

And, how are you doing these days, Bee? Still hanging in on the yoga?

>LOL... your posts made me laugh. > >And, how are you doing these days, Bee? Still hanging in on the >yoga? Yes, I have. I've been going to class once a week and practicing in bits and pieces throughout the week. A few stretches or balancing exercises in the ladies room are good for lessening the cramps I'd otherwise get from sitting in from of a computer all day at work. I *skipped* class this week because I wasn't feeling good, but overall I've been impressed with my own stick-to-it-ative-ness. I wasn't sure I had it in me, when I started out. I think the big things are that I enjoy the yoga, and I honestly do feel better after doing it. I go to class with a stiff neck and come home feeling more relaxed, yet invigorated.
I don't put much thought into what I eat, these days -- it's pretty much second nature, now. The long "diet" stretch set me up with some good habits, and most of them just keep going on their own volition with basically little to no effort on my part. There are a few more pizzas and a few more cookies in my WOE, these days, but I'm doing well overall. And I'm basically holding my own, weightwise.
I'm happy at this weight, and I've been having fun with clothing and a bit of makeup and such -- areas I previously neglected because on some level, I felt like my appearance was beyond hope. I haven't worn a huge tee-shirt and a pair of loose, elastic-waist pants in quite a while, for example. I catch a look at myself in the mirror at times and am still surprised when I don't see the overweight girl in the baggy clothes anymore. It's been taking some getting used to. But it's fun!
Congratulations on your marriage, JayJay! And very best wishes. I hope everything is going well for you.
Thanks for asking about me. :)

I forgot to mention...I even got a cute new haircut after years of wearing my hair in the exact same (unflattering) style. And I bought a bottle of Chanel fragrance I'd been longing for years (my mother wore it). I seem to be redefining myself, both inside and out. Many of the changes are insignificant, taken individually, but together they add up. On some levels, this has been a real journey of self-discovery for me.
Best wishes, beeswing

I just reread what I wrote and wanted to add something. Despite the examples I gave -- for me, it's not been about external stuff and buying things; those are just outgrowths of other changes. It's been a shift in self-confidence and self-esteem -- and the fallout from this is that I've really had to step back and think about what I truly like and what kind of person I really want to be. I feel like I have more choices now.
Has anyone seen the show "John Doe"? He's a guy who has total amnesia (except for having a slew of obscure facts in his brain to draw on). He literally has no idea who he is and what he likes and doesn't like, so he goes through his days trying things out. Then he'll excitedly note to himself "I'm the kind of guy that likes ________!" or "I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like _______!" I feel a lot like that...but it runs on a deeper level than just that. It's a bit hard for me to explain, but that's my best shot at it.

I almost cannot believe how great my life is now. I feel so much better.
If someone told me, a year ago, that in March of 2004 I will be what I am in fact, I would never take the prediction seriously.

Everyone should update their look at least every few years. I work with people who have had the same hairstyle since the 80s. It's like, please, make-over time!!! It's strange, some men still have mullets and some women still tease their hair into BIG hair. I update my look about every 9-10 months....
I'm glad you're updating your look. : )

What do you do to "update"? Haircut, hair color, new clothing? Makeup? (I haven't done much of the latter.)

Fortunately, I have very cool-looking brown and gray hair. I don't waer much make, except eye-liner and sometimes shadow, so I really focus on my hair.
I take really good care of my skin and hair. Each time I wash it (I alternate between two shampoos and conditioners so there's no build-up), I mousse and blow dry it. Right now, it's layered at just below shoulder length. It looks really, really good, if I say so myself. Next week I'll get a trim as well as get my eyebrow waxed and a facial. I usually tweeze my brows myself, but a nice shaping is good once in a while.

I carefully monitor myself for "eating for entertainment" purposes. There's no doubt that I would "treat myself" to as entertaining a three months as I could...
EXCEPT...
If fueling my body badly would make my remaining three months less functional or more painful or more abbreviated. The entertainment I get from food is replaceable by many other activities. Gluttony has costs besides a fat waist - I get too tired and can't stay up for things, for example.
