Has anyone tried that? I learned yesterday that I could make oat bran
cereal with water and spice containing dried vegetables and MSG. It
tastes great. Now I had this idea to cook hot oat bran cereal with FF
milk and cocoa powder. I am curious if anyone did that.

Yup.  Add a little cocoa powder and a bit of peanut butter and you've
got yourself and tasty treat ;-)

Thanks. Will give it a try, without PB at first. You see, Iwant my oat
bran cereal to be relatively low calorie food. Maybe one day I will
try it with PB, as well.

Can you describe your oat bran cereal to me.   I can't visualise what
it's like - it's either different from anything we have here, or I
know it by another name.

I used to cook it the following way:

Take 3 "cups" of FF milk
Add 6 very full tablespoons of oat bran
Add a bit of salt
Boil gently for 20 minutes or so

The result is a pretty decent, a little sweet hot cereal. (maybe it is
known as "porridge" in the UK). It has jello like consistency and
retains shape.

Then someone told me that I can cook it the following way:

Take 3 cups of water
Add 6 very full tablespoons of oat bran
Add Polish "vegeta" spice, which is a mix of salt, MSG, and dried
vegetables
Add something like a few cashews or sunflower seeds
Boil gently for 20 minutes or so

The result is a soft, meat like tasting hot cereal that is not sweet
but it feels like you are eating some nice meat product. Very tasty,
I took it to work for today.

What I am thinking of making is this:

Take 3 cups of FF milk
Add 6 full spoons of oat bran
Add 2? spoons of cocoa powder
mix
Boil for 20 minutes.

Thanks Ig, but my question was more basic - what does it look like
before you cook it or put anything with it?  I don't know if it's like
what we called rolled oats, or porridge oats - which are flattened and
make a smooth porridge when cooked with water.  I thought that was
what you call oatmeal, though.
This always confuses me and I've forgotten what the answer is.

I can't answer for Ig, but when I think of "oat bran" I think of the
ground version, that is like a bran flower.   But I just was looking
online and found this:

http://www.rawfoods.com/recipes/oatbran.html

Its a recipe for oat bran cereal using oat bran, or rolled oats.

When I make oat bran muffins I tend to use a cereal like Raisen Bran
to get the "bran"  but here in the states you can buy ground oat bran
in the health food stores like you would buy flour.  This is used for
baking things like muffins and breads, etc.

It looks kinda like roughly ground whole wheat flour to me.  This is the
kind that I have at the moment:

As far as I understand, oat bran is the bran of oats, whereas oatmeal
is oats with bran removed. Oat bran looks like grey powder with
relatively large particles.
