I was good everyday this week on my eating. I kept within the guideline of
the program.
But, on Friday I woke up with a Kidney Stone. So needless to say, my
activity has been Zero since then.
The pain meds I am on take away my motivation to do anything. I just sit in
front of the TV like a blob.
But, I have increased my water intake greatly. Trying to push that stone
out. No luck yet.
I am going to call my doctor this morning to find out my next plan of
action. I want to get this
stone out and get back on track with my life.
L8r,
Chuck :-)

What a bummer, Chuck. Hope you're feeling better soon and can get back to
your program.

I've never experienced a kidney stone - but from the stories I've
heard - they SUCK!!! Ya know - if all you can do is to sit and
wiat for the stone to pass for the pain to subside - then that is all
you can do. If you can keep up a lower calorie eating plan, then
you will stay at least 1 step ahead.
Also, I do hear that diet can greatly reduce the frequency of kidney
stones. Hopefully this new WOE of yours is taking that into
consideration.

Yowza! BTDT - woke up at 1 am in '84 and knew I was in PAIN for the first
time in my life! They sent me home from the ER with enough Demerol for a
week - never felt a thing after that night. Drank a lot of water, it
took 4 days, iirc. They said it was from the water in the area.
They had given me a shot of Demerol at the ER, told my husband to go get
the car. Not only does he not drive, he most *certainly* didn't drive my
5 speed Saab. They told us sternly that I couldn't drive - call a taxi.
It was the day before payday and we had spent the last of our cash on a
Dominos pizza (which I had thrown up at the hospital) SO, we waited till
they went away, he said "I can keep you awake till we get home" and I
drove about 3 miles *under the influence* at 4am.
The next day, the er called me. My husband was there, had fallen off his
bike and broken his wrist. He told me later he had fallen asleep and hit
a parked car.
Fun times! (never had Domino's again)

All this kidney stone talk has prompted me to go get a large glass of water!
I have never had a kidney stone but I have treated folks with them on the
rare occasions that I picked up time in the ER. I assure you there is not
enough Demerol in the world for some of those poor patients. I felt
terrible for them.

Julianne, I believe you. I had never had Demerol before but once they
gave me my shot, they had to keep waking me up on the x-ray table to roll
over <g>
Getting another glass of water. Hey Dally - drink up!

I had demerol before. My dad's gp prescribed it for me to deal with a gall
stone attack (I lived in another state and was visiting so I couldn't go to
my own doctor). 24 hours later in the emergency room, the surgeon who was
about to remove said gall bladder explained that demerol was the wrong pain
killer to prescribe because it causes contractions of muscles and apparently
my abdominals contracted forcing the ducts to contract over the gall stones.
It was the second worst pain I've ever experienced (#1 at the time), the
worst being when I was having my ear surgery and the local began to wear off
just as they were blowing out my stapes bone with a laser.

Sorry about the stone Chuck. I've never had one before, but heard they are
painful. Is that your experience? Look at it this way....If a stone is 14
pounds, when the stone passes you'll be 14 pounds lighter....lol Just a
little joke to humor you.
Take care and good luck with getting better and losing the weight. I know
you can do it.

I've read a LOT of people new in various programs have that happen.
It's interesting why. Nearly every good quality loss plan pushes
drinking large amounts of pure water.
Before starting their plan of choice, many people used to drink
diet sodas or coffee nearly to the exclusion of pure water. That
actually causes kidney stones. Drinking liquids with stuff in
them makes the kidneys work to filter that stuff out. If it
includes the types of minerals that go into stones, stones begin
to form.
But once started on the plan of choice plenty of fresh pure water
is drunk. That allows the kidneys to flush out any build-up. Yup,
that's right. Drink enough water and any kidney stones in there
come flushing out. Ouch.
The good news - Drinking plenty of pure water will keep any future
ones from building up. Once they run out they are gone forever.
This isn't much solice for you *now*, but it should be a year or
two down the line!

That's what I just got told the other day. I'm at high risk of kidney
stones due to the level of calcium in my blood so I've been told to keep up
the water intake. That's probably what has prevented me from having stones
at this point (or so I'm told).
