I started seeing a specialist about three weeks ago...the first week was
just waiting for lab work etc to come back. I meet with her nutritionist
once a week, we go over my food diary, check vital signs and just chat about
how I'm doing and my plan for the coming week. I had been losing weight,
but, like all the plans I had tried before, it had started coming back on,
and I wasn't going to go through that again! So I wound up at the Dr's. If
you can afford this sort of thing, I have to tell you, it is wonderful. She
has me on a balanced diet, although a little "tilted" in favour of protein.
It reminds me of the old "classic" weight watchers plan (which was actually
one worked out by the NYCity Health Dept!) and is much like the diabetic
exchange diet. Whatever, it works, you have to work AT it and I wish I had
done this years ago...I feel so badly for a friend who is jumping from fad
diet to fad diet..anyway, like I said, if you can afford this sort of
program, run, do not walk to the nearest clinic! I guess I have learned the
hard lesson that there are no "magic bullets" or "magic formulas." We can
all fool ourselves about whether or not we are sticking to our plans, but
having to sit down with someone else and go over it with the fine-tooth comb
is a revelation!
Cheers all...if it works for you, great, right?

Where are you?
Also, you know about diets and ways of eating. What specifically is it
about this that is working for you? I am not being snide but just curious.
Do you think it is the accountability? Do you think that maybe because you
are investing time and money in it, it is more meaningful to you?
Congrats on your progress. Sounds like you have found something that works
for you!
