I posted here a few weeks ago about the fuss surrounding Coca  Cola's
launch of its Dasani water here in the UK - mainly because the press
portrayed it as bottled London tap water.

Well, I never got the chance to decide for myself whether I would like
it or not - the following is from today's London "Times".

Coca-Cola pulls plug on Dasani
By Valerie Elliott, Consumer Editor

COCA-COLA is facing new humiliation and losses of at least £40 million
after being forced to postpone the introduction of Dasani, its “pure,
still water”, in Europe.
Company chiefs have accepted that Dasani as a brand is so vilified in
Britain after it was exposed as a purified version of Sidcup tap water
that the product stood no chance of early success on the Continent.

Dasani was to have been introduced in Germany this month and in France
in April, but the company has indefinitely delayed the launch. It
said: “The timing is no longer considered optimal.”

It was also confirmed that the drink would remain withdrawn in Britain
after the disclosure that it contained more than twice the safe level
of the cancer-causing chemical bromate.

The decision announced yesterday is a huge blow to the Coca-Cola
Company Europe, Eurasia, Middle East, which had planned to establish
Dasani throughout the continent.

Industry experts said the company’s reputation had been dented and
management reorganisation was likely.

It's not one of my favorite bottled waters here.  It has a funny taste to
me.  I usually stick to plain old tap water or buy the grocery store brand.
I normally just refill the bottles with tap water and stick back in the
fridge<g>

Same here.  Must be all the sodium they add to it.
It's funny, I can't even drink that stuff when I am dying of thirst.
Once my husband bought a case of it in the summer and a couple of sips
and I just could not stand it.  And I was thirsty!  When I got home I
had glass after glass of nice cold tap water.

Aquafina on the other hand, I can drink by the litre.
I drink tap water at home, but when I am out, a nice cold bottle of
aquafina is the most refreshing thing I can have.

I love Aquafina and Ozarka.  Only Coca-Cola could take something as
good for you as WATER and make it bad for you!

I like Deja Blue.  Mainly because of the bottle, as well as taste.  I like
the sport top and the bottle doesn't crinkle up as you drink from it.

I like Deja Blue, too.  And many other brands as well.

I don't object to bottles having the sport top, but I just unscrew
them as if they weren't there.

I once saw something about how nasty it is to press the thing down
that you're then going to stick in your mouth.  With a screw top, the
part that goes in your mouth is covered when it's closed up, and only
ever touches your lips when it's opened.

It may or may not bother you or other people, but it does me.  I
oftentimes like to have a bottle of water with me in situations where
my hands may not have just been washed.

It doesn't bother me.  I usually refill the bottle with filtered water from
my fridge.  The only reason I don't like using glasses is because I have 2
cats.  If I leave a glass of water unattended for 2 seconds, then the cats
will drink from it.  I usually open and close the bottle with my teeth, not
my hands.  Also, I rinse out the sport top every time I refil.

And this is true of other "brands" as well. Not all but some.
So before you drink that bottled water, check where it comes from.

Just out of curiousity - do you have Aqua-Fina water over there?

I don't know - I've never heard of it, so it's certainly not a well
known brand name here, if it's available at all.

My reason for asking is, its Pepsi's version of the same thing as
Dasani...
