This is a note for Beverly's granddaughter from mine who turns thirteen
shortly. We haven't bugged her about dieting up until now as we were
always told to leave kids alone and try to serve them healthy meals at
home and discourage snacking on junk but it never worked. My daughter
served junk at home. Lindsay now weighs 35 pounds more than I do and I
fear she will suffer a lifetime as i did from obesity.
So, as I mentioned when i started this thread, the entire family
started a diet together last week. We are in three different
households. Lindsay is nearing her second week on fairly generous and
balanced diet. Here is what she wrote for your grandaughter:
"I think that you should go on a diet because when I did I felt very
proud of my self. I was willing to give up all bad food,do exercises
and just plain feel good. Maybe if you lose a certain amount of weight
your parents or grandparents will treat you with a present i think
after you loose the certain amount of wait you want youll be happy and
proud and glad you decided to in the first place so far ive lost 4
pounds in a week and it feels great. I think you'd like it because I
do."

Tell your granddaughter thanks from me. I'll be sure mine reads it.
I helped the granddaughter with a school project last night and then we went
out to eat as no one had ate dinner and I had nothing quick to fix. I must
say she ordered sensibly and seems to have lost a few pounds in the past
month. She told me she had been trying to cut back on the bread and
potatoes and eat more fruit. She's not a veggie lover but I wouldn't be
either if I had grown up eating them the way her mother prepares them<g>
Her mother smothered vegetables in butter and cooked them until they were
mush.
I'm going to try and get her involved in more activities this summer. We're
planning on some biking. She and her family recently moved into a community
that has a nearby pool. She loves to swim and I'm hoping this will add to
her activity this summer. We've already talked about my coming over on my
day off and using the pool with her. She's made new friends at the new
place and I think she might finally be taking an interest in her appearance
and weight.
Thanks again.
