Hello to all. I've been periodically checking into this group and it seems
like most people here are nice and quite supportive. I embarked on a new WOE a
little over a month ago. I've been using the method of trying to make smarter
choices when eating, and slowly but surely picking up on the exercise thing.
I've been using a piece of software called DietPower, to log my eats & drinks,
as well as track my exercise. It seems like it is helping me more than just
trying to wing it on my own. Has anyone else used it with any success? I'm
about 30 days in, and I've dropped 8 lbs. so far from my original 240. My
current goal, which I may or may not have to revise, is to get under the 200
plateau in a 6 month time frame. I'm a 34 year old male who stands 5' 11".
Does this seem realistic, or too drastic?

Sounds pretty realistic, and remember, whatever you do to
achieve it, you will have to stick with permanently or gain
it back. So don't do anything drastic.

losing 32 lbs in 6 months is quite realistic.

You're current goal is very doable. Congratulations on making smarter
choices and getting exercise. It will become a habit if you let it. My
initial changes were to walk one mile a day and eat half as much food as
I had before, using a smaller plate.
Keep up the good work, continue posting here and if you want to read a
terrific book, get Changing for Good by Prochaska.

Hi! I also use diet power to log my foods and such. It is a great program
and you should have success with it. I just upgraded to v4 so I can set
my maintenance numbers. I couldnt do that with my older version. Congrats
on your lifestyle change. I know you will do great.
The only thing I dont like about pre v4 dietpowers are that It didnt
take in account that I only weigh in once a week. So it would drop my
metabolic numbers daily when I logged my weight as staying the same. v4
is great. IF you dont have it you may want to think about upgrading.

I can tell you from experience it's doable. I just lost 103 pounds in 7
months, which may or may not be the healthy speed to do it, but I did make
drastic eating and exercise changes. I'm 5'11" and am 39 years old with a
slight handicap too. I have another 22 pounds to lose to reach my goal of
175. You can lose the weight, just DO IT.

Hello and welcome to the group. What you want to do is possible... BUT if
you don't make goal in 6 months, don't give up out of frustration and go
back to your old ways. Keep on going, whether or not you meet goal.

I actually use that same software. It helps keep me on track, and the fact
I know I will have to log the food makes me more aware of what I am actually
eating.
