I've changed my meal 5 (dinner to you) from 1/2 pound spinach, 1/2
pound onions, 1/2 pound mixed veggies, 1/2 pound pasta sauce,7 cloves
garlic to 1/2 pound spinach, 1/2 pound tomato paste (+ 4 oz water),
3.75 oz herring, and 7 cloves garlic.  Frankly, the prior meal was too
much work.  I won't stick to any meal that requires more than 6
minutes to prepare - I'm just too tired after work.  Also, the 2
pounds of food (plus 8 oz grapefruit juice) was too much volume for my
stomach - I had to lay down after eating.  Besides my new meal five,
I'm changing from 3 glasses of grapefruit juice daily to 4.  I credit
the grapefruit juice with a 5 pound weight loss.  BTW my blood
pressure is down to 110/70 now after stopping eating the pasta sauce
(salt).  I appear to be quite salt sensitive.

Brad, I don't mean to be rude, but do you actually **like** this
concoction?  It sounds really awful to me!  (The prior version sounded
even worse, and too much.)

And my question, also not meaning to sound rude, is - how do you feel?  Do
you really feel better/healthier on this type of diet?  Just curious.  I
don't see how I could fit strawberries dipped in Nutella into this
particular woe...

Brad makes it sound weirder than it really is. It is probably not
tasty, but relatively healthful. And if one is hungry, everything is
tasty.

<VBG> That that is certainly an important consideration!  Our fresh
local strawberries are out now (the u-pick places weren't opened last
weekend yet but we were able to score some at the farmer's market!)

I feel fine - the "stew" needs more herring, tho.  Tonite I'll try two
3.75 oz cans of herring (kippered snacks at the supermarket).  Herring
has the healthy omega 3 fatty acids - of the 180 calories in 3.75 oz
140 of them are fat. My wife refuses to even taste my stew!<grin>.  My
son is braver - when he comes home from college he'll taste it in
order to make fun of me.  The "secret" of yummy stews is the sauce and
spices - I'll keep experimenting with those.  BTW I'm now down to 156
- two more pounds down.

Paul,

LOL - I feel that way myself, sometimes.  Last nite I used two cans of
herring in my mix - yum! - but never again - my stomach was a little
upset.  I'm going to try curry powder tonite (and no garlic - seeing
dentist tomorrow). BTW 8 ozs of spinach only has 60 calories. Now, if
I could only get my wife to eat my cooking...

I like all kinds of fish but your concoction grosses me out.  I cooked
golden trout fillets seasoned with Mrs. Dash's salt-free lemon pepper,
instant brown rice and asparagus for dinner tonight.  I prefer the rainbow
trout but it only sold as whole fish here and DH hates to eat around the
bones.

Geez, nobody likes herring here?  If I call it tomato-based fish and
spinach curry it may sound more appealing.  I prefer canned herring
big time over canned tuna. Served exclusivily in the finest
restaurants...<grin>.  Remember, our standard "Western" diet of meat,
potatoes, refined grains and added sugars accounts for up to 70% of
heart disease, America's number one killer, according to the Harvard
School of Public Health.  Fatty fish like herring, sardines, and
salmon are thought to prevent heart disease.

I do. Ate a bunch yesterday.

herring is much fatter and tastier than tuna.

that does not make your concoction particularly appeaing.

I would gladly eat it though, as of now, as I am fasting today.

Well, I sure don't -- can't speak for everyone else.

Only until you tell people what's in it.

I really like tuna.  Herring is gross, as are sardines.  OTOH, I adore
salmon.

By the way, Brad's "slurry" can be changed into a quite atractive,
expensive restaurant quality meal.

All he needs to do is make a spinach salad, serve herrin with it, and
make a vegetable stew from the rest, and serve protein in some
separate shake.

I agree it sounds better split up into separate dishes - but then why
should it really matter - how often were we told as kids "it all goes
down the same way".  Nothing I tell myself can make Brad's recipe
sound appetising though:)

We don't get canned herring here, but I do love fresh herrings grilled
- yummy.  We used to have them when I was a child so I've always known
them.
What we do  have is something called rollmop, which I think is a raw
pickled herring and is sold in jars.  IMO it's up there with black
pudding as one of the most disgusting foods ever made.
I love fish, but the idea of fish curry isn't so appealing, especially
the way you describe it Brad ;)

I love herring, but not mixed up with that other stuff. I like herring the
Norwegian way, with pickling spice or a mustard sauce.
