Vitamin question

Hi, all.  I've been lurking here for a while and now have a question I hope
someone here can answer.

I take a multivitamin tablet daily.  For the past several weeks I've been
taking the Walmart equivalent of Oneaday Weight Smart, which contains
ingredients (HGCG?) that are supposed to help rev up the metabolism.

Does this really do anything?  I'm wondering if I'd be better suited with a
formulation more structured for my life circumstances.  (OK, I admit it --
one formulated for those of us who are over 50!)

Yes, take one formulated for people over 50.  The only supplements that
have any reasonable effect on fat loss are the EC stack and maybe, just
maybe, chromium piccolinate if you are already insulin resistant.

I take rather a lot of vitamins.  Here's what I take:

A generic multivitamin
Extra calcium
500 mg vitamin C (just 'cuz)
400 mg vitamin E (I just like anti-oxidents)
Gingko Biloba (to dilate my blood vessels and maybe prevent alzheimers)
Niacin (the kind that makes me flush to dilate my blood vesseles)

I used to take chromium piccolinate but I no longer have metabolic
syndrome and don't bother anymore.

I sometimes take a glucosamin/chondroitin/msm combination for my aging
joints.  Those pills are big and I don't always pack them.

I make my husband take some plant stanols for his high cholesterol along
with a pretty high dose of Niacin and a baby aspirin.  He takes most of
the same vitamins except the calcium.

I sometimes add a quarter aspirin, some caffeine, some Ephedrine HCl
(this is the ECA stack) and is highly controversial.

One good thing about this vitamin regimen is that it requires me to
drink a lot of water to get it down.  Sometimes I suspect that's doing
more good than all the pills.  :-)

I have been researching natural sources of chromium, but except from brewer
yeast, I haven't found many. Do you have any idea of what food is high in
it? Is the effect of chromium on IR really proven or not?

Not all people need this one though. Blood calcium is easy and inexpensive
to test, and should be done, since it's possible to have too much calcium.
Same with iron and potassium. My readings for both iron and calcium are
stuck at the higher end of the range, so I'm supposed to stay away from
supplements with them.

My general impression is that a lot of things that are high in iron
are also high in chromium.  I did a quick web search -- result agrees
pretty well with this.  Here's the site I found:

Thanks :)
Given that my iron is pretty high (ferritin at 218), it's likely that my
chromium is also high. I eat beef, chicken and eggs pretty often so that
should provide enough of it. I guess I will have to look elsewhere for my IR
;)

Here's an interesting article I found on the effects of chromium
deficiency:
