Hi Everyone!
My name is Leonie and I have been looking for a support group for a while.
This list seems fairly active, so I'm glad to be here.
Here's a bit of my story. I am "morbidly obese" by far, with more than 200
pounds to lose. I have never really dieted seriously before. Which might
sound amazing, but truthfully I never have. I wish I could say that it was
because I accepted myself and didn't feel the need to lose weight. The real
reason is that I lacked confidence in myself and didn't feel that I could
lose weight.
I am taking on my weight now because after much soul-searching I now BELIEVE
that I can do whatever I put my mind to. Weight loss is just one of many
changes I have made to better my life.
As for my plan--it's simple enough. I am giving up junk food and making
other changes to reduce calories, working out three times a week and being
accountable for my eating and activity by using a weigh loss journal.
Well, that's me all summed up. I look forward to being actively involved
with this group.
Thanks
Leonie

Welcome Leonie. Congratulations on deciding to take the necessary steps to
lose the weight. You'll find lots of support and information in the group.
You didn't mention what you used to journal your food. Many in the group
use www.fitday.com It's free but you do need to register. They also have
a software version you can download for a few dollars.
I look forward to your posts.

Cool. Just make sure not to do anything too
extreme, try to develop something you can
stick with for life. As you get used to working
out, try doing different activities different days.
The more different activities you do, the better
overall condition you will be in.

Welcome to the group Leonie. You'll find most people here very encouraging

You are welcome Leonie. Try not going on radical diets, but also, give
"lowcarbing"a good look. It works for many people like you, especially
if you have blood sugar control issues.

Welcome, Leonie! I really believe you can do this if you try. I
didn't particularly think I could lose weight but it turns out I could
:-). Just take it a day at a time. Remember, it's not a crash diet
but a new way of life!

262/152/ (145-150) {If you haven't figured out the code yet, this
means I started out weighing 262, I now weigh 152, and my goal is to
be in the 145-150 range.}

Welcome, Leonie.
>>I am "morbidly obese" by far, with more than 200
pounds to lose. <<
I started my healthy WOL on Oct. 13, 2003. I weighed 365 pounds, some
215 pounds over my "ideal" weight.
Since then, I have lost nearly 100 pounds.
I improved my health and my quality of life and you can, too.
You've gotten some great suggestions. Mine is keep in close touch with
your health care providers. At your weight, you probably have health
issues. Make sure you don't harm yourself in the quest to lose weight.
It's about improving your health.
I look forward to your participation in the group.
As always, YMMV.

365/266/???
Welcome to the group Leonie. I know the feeling...It took a long time for
me to get the determination to get this excess weight off of me. You can do
it.

You picked a good time to start, since waiting just makes it worse!
I started my diet regimen in February, and am down 20+ lbs.
My basic plan is to just maintain a 1000 calorie deficit every day.
This theoretically results in a 2 lb/week weight loss, which is
exactly what I've been experiencing.
I thought this huge deficit would result in massive hunger pains, but
so far I've had absolutely none. I think it's because I:
1) drink a LOT of water
2) Eat small meals every 3-4 hrs.
3) Limit my sugar and starch intake when I'm not exercising
4) Never avoid filling protein and unsaturated fatty foods (like
almonds) in reasonable quantities
5) Go on a nice bike ride 1 or 2 hr bike ride every day.
6) Only snack at most once between major meals.
I'm 6' 1", so eating this way still gives me 1500-2000 calories a day,
which is a lot when divided between 3-5 meals.
