Hi,

Just wondering, what are some recommended -liquid- intakes for weight gain?
I'm getting into weight training but I'm a particularly small (and slow)
eater so I need to put on some bulk by means other than the solid meals that
I have.

I wasn't necessarily thinking of 'processed' protein shakes etc, but maybe
something more along the lines of shakes with eggs, bananas.. What are some
other foods in liquid form that I could use as a diet supplement, almost
like a staple meal in itself?

Thanks in advance

Try adding a lot of whole milk.

This makes two largish drinks to be taken in addition to your regular meals:

56g (2 serves) Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein or equivalent
500ml (2 cups) Skim Milk
250ml (1 cup) Skim Milk Powder
1 banana
50g unsalted peanuts/peanut butter
2-4 teaspoons Nestle Malted Milk Drink/Sustagen/Malt flavour Milo etc
1 tablespoon Malt Extract or honey (to taste)

There's over 1200 calories in that little lot, plus loads of calcium,
phosphorus, potassium and vitamins A, C and B-group.  Just don't go
overboard with the malt extract as it's incredibly sweet.  Personally, I
tend to leave the peanuts out since I'm not keen on nut-flavoured drinks and
use them throughout the day as nibblies.

Hi, thanks for the recipe, that looks pretty delicious actually.. and I love
Milo.. :) I may even throw in a couple of eggs as well, methinks.

Thanks again!

Well, doesn't this depend on what exactly you are trying to accomplish?
If your goal is simply to gain weight and you don't care where those
calories come from, you could make a shake by blending large amounts of
milk, milk powder, chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, peanut butter,
bananas, etc.  Frankly this seem like an odd question.  Take a bunch of
stuff you like and blend it together.  Drink it.

Or follow a fat person around, consume as many soda pops as they are
consuming, eat as many potato chips, candy bars, donuts, fries, .... you
get the picture.

The post you just read, unless otherwise noted, is strictly my opinion
and experience.  Please interpret accordingly.

You know not every person who has a weight problem overeats....or consumes
alot of junk food...personally I found this comment really offensive.  I am
124lbs overweight and i don't eat junk food or drink alot of soda.
But of course you are entiled to your own opinion.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but tell me, how calories are you eating
daily?  How many calories were you eating that you got you 124 lbs
overweight?  It wasn't 1800.

My caloric intake is between 1500 - 1800 a day.  I have a hormone problem
that is the cause of my weight gain.

Understand that you are a small minority.  I think it IS fair to say
that fat people eat too much - you'll just be wrong 1 out of 100
times.

The shake suggested by DRS is probably a great idea.

Whey protein might be your friend.

Other things, besides what was allready suggested -

yogurt, cottage cheese

you should try to think HIGH calorie.  Let me try to be helpful here
(i apologize if I have any of these numbers off, i'm going off the top
of my head)

1 cup of low fat cottage cheese is about 180 calories and 26 grams of
protein

1 cup of skim milk is about 80 calories, 1 cup of whole milk is 130 I
think.  I believe there is 8 grams of protein per 1 cup of milk.  It
may be 12.

2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter is about 200 calories and 8 grams of
protein

1 tablespoon of oil  (olive oil, flax oil, hempseed oil) is about
120-150 calories

1 large egg is 70 calories with something like 5 grams of protein

1 scoop of whey protein is generally about 120 or somethign calories
and maybe 20 grams of protein.

I forget how many cals or carbs are in a banana...been in ketosis for
too long :)

Now, these foods are all great for weight gain on their own, in big
quantities.  But if you want to make a liquid meal, let's say you used
2 cups whole milk, 4 tablespoons peanut butter, 4 tablespoons oil, 3
whole eggs, and two scoops of whey protein powder, and 1 cup cottage
cheese.  We're looking at 260+400+600+210+240+180=1890 calories and
16+16+15+40+26=113 grams of protein in something that's not even that
big.  Sip on that through out the day (or anything, like the
other one suggested above by DRS) and that should add some size.  Oh, and add
some fruit and you'll get some carbs in there which could exteremely
jack up those calories.  And you could use splenda for taste

Don't forget to squat and ask for seconds.

Hope that helps.  I just like numbers.

Hehe wow that will pack quite a punch I imagine.. but, milk and oil?! Ok if
you insist, doctor.. :)

exact intact..

Well I certainly can't promise it will taste like rasberry sherbert,
but you're in luck if that's the one thing that sticks out to you -
have the oil on the side.  You can just take shots of it like
vodka...chase it with something, like diet coke.

Me personally, I usually will have oil with tuna or canned chicken,
but if I feel like having something else on those foods, I'll just
take shots of the oil seperately.
