Does it happen often?

Do the people who reach their goals stop posting?

Just curious

I may not be a daily poster due to life getting in the way, but my goal is
lifelong, to eat the way I am currently eating for the rest of my life,
numbers or no numbers.  So, in that sense, I will never reach a "last day"
goal.

That said, I often wonder the same thing. There are a few people who come
here to just get their number and buzz off, (sometimes coming back with an
"I fell off the wagon and gained weight, here I am again" post), but those
type are rare, and often are the hardest to get to understand what
lifestyle change means.

You wish:-)
I've been on the board since 1996, and used to be a real butt pain!.
I'm still here and still fighting the good fight--with myself though.
Rosie's been right here too, also Jamie, and Barbara Hirsch. Sometimes
we hear from Adreanna and a few other veterans. We also had two ASD
marriages of members who met on the group,  Cowboy and Stacy, Cynthia
and George

Of course, neither I nor George have met our goals... however, we are
both exercising regularly these days! Just back from a walk, actually.

George doesn't post often here anymore, but I read and sometimes post.

I've been around here for quite some time.  Many of us don't have a number
we've selected for a goal weight.  I'm just interested in keeping the
weight down and staying healthy.  My doctor says he's very satisfied with
my current weight of 147 but I would like to lose a few more pounds.  Maybe
some day I'll get there....maybe not.  My biggest concern is exercise and
reversing or at least stopping the damage from osteopenia.

I reached my original goal...and surpassed it to find my own "best" weight.
I've been on maintenance somewhere approaching a year and a half now. (I'm no
longer counting...It's been long enough.) I read a little, post even less, but
I do keep my foot in.

Same here. I lurk for a few minutes every other day or so. That is
about
all I have time for right now. On a brighter note. I surpassed my goal
about a week ago. I have actually set a new mini goal now. Once I got
down to 200 I knew that was not quite enough. I have now set my new
goal
to 190. Only difference now is I don't care if it takes me a year or
longer to get there. BEcause I know I will.I still have to get some
recent pics up and running. I will do this someday. :)~ I
procrastinate*? alot. I think when a person reaches goal it is even
more
important to read and post. I think most of the ones that stop posting
when they reach goal is because they feel satisfied that they can keep
thier new lifestyle running for the long haul. And dont feel the need
for
that support anymore. Kudos to them! But I like the feeling that help
and support is only a click away. ;)  peace!!

I think I posted here when I managed to stumble into that part time gig
about 6 months ago, didn't I? A typical day starts with a mile or so at
a nearby mall, then several hours trapped in a 5 X 4 cubicle shuffling
papers. It's a job that's about as exciting as steamed cabbage, but it's
a nice, almost sufficient, supplement that pays for a few of life's
little luxuries (Like an upcoming trip to Amsterdam with a few friends.)

I'm Still a cripple, but at what they're paying me, I can work about 20
hours a week without affecting my disability.

I must have missed that post.  Sounds like the exercise is a nice benefit
of the job.  IIRC they were thinking about closing the mall where you did a
lot of walking.

You'll have to give us a trip report when you return.

Nothing to do with the job, that just involves sitting at a desk and
sorting papers. I do the walking before work. My old mall is still one
massive mountain of dirt and rubble, I just lucked into another one half
a mile from the office. If I can get that bleedin' passport, we'll be
heading off to Europe next Feb. The rest of this year is really going to
draaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

I'm still here.  Although I've been very busy lately and not posting
nearly as much.

I reached "goal" quite a while ago, and my goal here now is to
continue to work on my body shape.   That may mean gaining or losing
at any particular time.

The great thing about this group and the reason I've stuck around
dispite the fact that I'm not really "dieting" is that you learn so
much about food and fueling your body.   Also, working thru all those
"food" issues that have been ingrained into your heads.

Some people will reach goal and leave.   Some will return when they
have faultered and need a boost from the group.  Some have stuck
around, but may not post as often as before.

I've been here for quite a few years.  ANd I have to say I've made
some good friends here and I enjoy the banter with the people who are
here.   I've even met some of the regulars in real life.  I do hope to
meet more too.

I just love how Jayjay can sum up things so easily and succinctly!  :)

Regardless, some people will make good progress and then fall off the
wagon, regain all the weight they lost plus some, then leave the group in
shame since they feel like a utter failures.  However, those people tend to
stick around and actively lurk for years on end and only post infrequent
messages to the group.

Not that I know anyone like that personally.  :)

Cheers!

Hi, Alex.  I'm Tonia.  Now, you know someone like that if not in person.  I
came back to the group after nearly a year off in which I'd gained back to
221 after losing down to 163 from 226.  I'm now back down to 184 and I'm
doing a lot more weight training and I see a big improvement that its been
making in how my body looks now over how I looked at 184 the previous
go-round.  So that's been helping me stay motivated so far.  I plan to stick
around but the best laid plans of mice and ....  We'll see what happens.  I
may have to drop out for a while if we move across the state later this
summer (July).  Keep your fingers crossed for me folks, that DH gets offered
that job because I really want to go!  We'd be about an hour drive outside
of San Antonio if he gets the job.

If the last few years I moved twice and got way far out of my routine to
bad consequences each time.  The next time I move I am going to drag my
a.s to a gym even while boxes remain unopened wherever I ended up moving
to :)

Hmmm, I worked so hard during and after moving that I lost weight...
but then slacked off for the cold ND winter and gained some back,
fortunately, not all.

Moving is tough though.

Yup, I'm still around.  I never really left.  I just turned into more of a

Hope all is well with you - and how are things with irishcream?
VirtualGuy - 23 May 2004 16:30 GMT
> Hope all is well with you - and how are things with irishcream?

Hi Jayjay!

Yes, everything is cool around here with irishcrm and I.  She recently
found a data entry job with a company that processes immigrant health
claims. She is really enjoying it.  I'm happy for her as she has found
something that she likes to do, is getting paid for it, and can now be out
from my apron strings, if you know what I mean.  :)

BTW...Congratulations on your recent wedding.  Are you finding married life
is all that it's cracked up to be?  :)

As for me, things are pretty much status quo, but I'm trying to change
that.  As I mentioned in another posting, I'm standing at the 5 year
anniversary of when I started my transformation.  I need to go back down
that road and change my way of life again.  Hence, the reason I am back.
I'm going to be looking to ASD for support, yet again.  I don't think that
this will be problem.  Never has been in the past.

Home, sweat, Home!  :)

Cheers!

Hi Carol.  Yes, I'm working on getting back into the drill.  I think
the answer to what happens to ASDers once they reach their goals is
they disappear until they need help again ;^)

Eventually, I'll be going back to method since it worked so well.  However,
for now, I'm just concentrating on bringing the calories down to around +/-
2500 calories per day.

So far, so good!  Naturally, some days are better than others.  However, at
least I don't feel as out of control as I have been in the past.  So, I'm
making progress!  :)

I recently read an article that stated people making small changes over a
period of time were more likely to lose and keep off the weight.  You're

The idea we get from televisions and newspapers is that we are poorer
than Americans, but Americans have to pay for all social services,
therefore we are much smarter than Americans.
Here I'm reading abour people retiring early from work, getting food
stamps, and even getting social assistance when they are too fat to
work.
I literally had to ask what food stamps were, there is not even the
IDEA of that here in Italy.
So I understand that social assistance is growing in the States, and
lowering in Italy.
In the end, we are simply poorer than Americans.

I always find it interesting to learn the differences in our countries and
cultures.  I've never visited Europe (my loss) so I can't compare.  I only
know all Americans don't retire early and all of us aren't rich<G>

I spent a month in France in the 80's and was shocked that everyone
thought we all had lives straight out of the TV show Dallas.  No more
than you have lives straight from palaces in Venice!  We don't even have
lives as glamorous as the ones on Friends.

My impression is that people are people are people.  Americans have more
toys as a given - even very poor people have large TVs and cellphones -
but they aren't any happier than people anywhere else.  They aren't any
unhappier, either.  Family matters just the same.  The day to day
annoyances differ somewhat, but I doubt the poor in America have more or
less annoyances than the poor in Italy.

Well, from taking many trips to Europe, most in Northern Europe, here are my
thoughts....taxes are much, much higher in No. Europe. Immigration is much,
much stricter, and getting more so. The influx of middle easterners and
Asians have taken their toll, as the influx of illegals has in the US. More
people are unemployed in No. Europe. For instance, half of the Danes work to
support the half that doesn't work. Danes also have the highest taxes on the
planet. They pay 55% income tax, 25% sales tax, which is higher on things
like booze and cigarettes.

Other things, my Norwegian friends detest having a priest as prime minister.
There are strict morality laws, such as outrageous taxes and prize on booze,
yet everyone I know there drinks...heavily.

Like California and some other states, fresh organic foods are highly
prized. Northern Europeans adore good food!

People in Europe smoke ALOT more than Americans. We're talking chimneys.

Techno is preffered in Europ over rap (neither of which I like), although
metal is big in both places.

Europeans are more fashion conscious than many Americans, unless you happen
to live in a big American city in the northeast or the west coast
(California).

Those are just a few things...

Martha

Some do.  Thank god.  (I'm thinking of the 100 day countdown to turkey day.)

Most just post less frequently and/or lurk.  Ping them to get their
attention with a post with their name in the subject.

I doubt I'll drop out when I reach goal, since this is more about
building a healthy community for myself than about dieting to a specific
weight.

Hey there!

Are you enjoying yourself? We finally have decent

Hi yourself!  Having a good time but starting to be ready to go home.

Hey everybody - Amy and I got to meet in person last week!  I assure you
she's healthy, fit and tiny.  We had a great visit and I hope to do it
again.

More exciting stuff when I get back.

Back at ya! You're much smaller--and fitter--than I
am--and bubbly! I had a great time--I'm sure you'll be
a lasting motivator for the women who met you that
night.

Have a safe trip home!

Yes, I joined when I was approaching my goal weight as well.  I mean, I
was well on my way but I wanted more tips/help/suggestions.  I have
found the group to be (mostly) helpful and I especially like to hear
what other people are eating because it can sometimes trigger some new
ideas for my own menu ;-)
