Hey everyone -- The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated! (just kidding)
Thanks to all who were wondering where I was -- I've been lurking occasionally but
have really tried to keep down the amount of time I am spending seated at the
computer.

Weight loss/maintenance is going pretty well -- struggling with 5 or 6 pounds that
have come back to roost, so I'm at 156.5 today, whereas the last time I posted, I was
probably 150. Went through a bit of a whiny period (since November actually) and
tried to incorporate some junk food (i.e. sugarfree peppermint patties and all these
new "low-carb" sweets that have come out) ... but now I think I'm getting over the
"Oh my God, I haven't tasted a Reese cup in 19 years and now here's this sugarfree
version I can try" -- because it is no fun having my smallest pants feel *way* too
tight in the stomach. I'd rather have my pants fit, but I've been having trouble
getting out of the grocery/drugstore *without* one of those sugarfree items.

I am also wondering whether inhaled steroids are contributing to weight gain (my
allergist says no, but I'm not sure about that) -- I have been using them since
February on my allergist's insistence -- he says they will contribute to long-term
lung health since I keep insisting that I feel great and that I feel no symptoms of
asthma anymore (mainly since the last 80 lbs have come off) -- but he didn't like the
results of my last breathing test so I promised I would try the inhaled steroids (I
have never stuck to them in the past for fear of weight gain).

I found out the hard way that I still gain weight at frightening speed -- in fact I
was up to 160 last week because I had injured a disk (disc?) in my back and couldn't
exercise for two weeks -- extra food and no exercise put on 4 lbs. almost immediately
(and believe me, it wasn't water). Now I'm back to my regular gym and walking
routine -- and heavy gardening work too. That combined with better eating has already
taken off what I had gained in the last couple of weeks. So I look forward to being
able to report a loss from my current 156.5 next time I post.

Hope everyone is doing well -- here's a nice tool I found on the Weather Channel Web
site yesterday that tells you how much water to drink a day depending on how much
exercising you do. http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/fitness/tools/hydration/

nice to hear from you Mary M! Fake LC foods have interfered with many
dieters...

It's funny, one diet guru (a male) asked once, "didn't you notice
something was wrong when you couldn't fit into your jeans anymore?"  But
the answer was "no" for me, since I gained all my weight during
pregnancies and I wasn't supposed to be able to fit into my jeans.  But
now, well, now I think that would be a signal.  ;-)

I was just discussing this with my doctor.  I've used a rescue inhaler
about once since starting to do an EC stack.  With all the things wrong
with the ephedrine, there are definitely benefits.  The best one is that
it's good for my lung function.  It's sold over-the-counter as Bronkaid
and Primatene tablets, in fact.  But it also has fat-loss benefits.
Quite the opposite of the steroids.

I injured my knee last night.  I still don't know how serious this is -
a momentary wrench and I'll be fine in a day or two or something that
will require lifestyle changes.  Too soon to tell.  But I was stunned to
catch sight of me in the mirror today and notice that I seemed dumpy and
disabled - my perception of myself went from "what a strong, fit woman!"
to "what a blowsy, crippled person!" literally overnight.  I'm still
musing about what this means.  I'm going to be very, very, very careful
about not eating too much while my knee is out of commission.

Welcome back to the posting world. About the inhaled
steroids--I've been using Advair for over two years
now, and have still been able to maintain my loss, and
lose a few more pounds besides. Don't confuse the
inhaled steroids with oral prednisone--raging, moon
faced, eat-everything-in-site steroids.

However, I was concerned about bone density loss, so
that's when I became serious about weight training. I
think the connection between inhaled steroids and
osteo-anything has been poopoohed since I started, but
I'll keep going anyway.

BTW--have you tried Singulair--it's supposed to be as
good as the inhaled steroid. Personally, I use both.

I didn't believe those rumors for one moment!  Glad to hear everything is
going well for you.

Hi everyone, and thanks for your nice responses. I was touched to see so many posts.
As I've seen others do, I'll just combine all my responses into this one post so as
not to clutter up the newsboard with a bunch of individual responses.

Jayjay -- thanks for the vote of confidence -- it took me this long to get to normal
weight, I sure hope I get to enjoy it a long time! :-)

Ig - you're right on the fake foods. I had gotten away from anything like that and
they are no friend to my waistline. Keeping insulin levels down needs to be my goal,
instead of trying to incorporate things into my diet that I really can't handle.

Dally -- hope your knee is feeling better -- I sympathize because I sure hated
feeling so "dumpy and disabled" too. I can't remember the last time I had the need
for a rescue inhaler -- so hooray for that. But maybe I should pull it back out for
weight benefits! -- JUST KIDDING to anyone who would think I'd be serious about that.

Steve -- thanks for always caring about me and staying in touch -- and letting me
know ASD was wondering about me.

Rosie -- good to see you and hope things are going well with you!

Julianne -- good to see you too -- how are things going for you? I'll have to check
through some past posts to get an update.

Amy - it is wonderful to hear that Advair has not thwarted your weight loss efforts.
I'm prescribed something very similar except it's in two inhalers not one (thanks to
the lovely insurance company who wouldn't pay for me to start out on Advair). And
yes, I do take Singulair, and my doctor highly recommends the Singulair/Advair combo
for long-term benefits.

Beverly -- thanks, it's great to see you -- are you already gearing up for those
famous bike rides? I think I'll be riding a lot more this summer too!

Thanks again and I will definitely stay in better touch. See, it already did me good
to post again because I was 155 today, not 156.5!

You see, you were a big inspiration to me in the beginning of my

Geared up and ready to go.  I just bought a new road bike I'm still learning
to ride.  I'm going to be a volunteer bike patrolman for the local metropark
system this summer.  Graduation is Saturday !!
