A bit of a ramble, some questions...

For some reason (and it could be because of hanging out around
vegetarian boards) I have gotten it into my head that if I eat more
fruits, and less or other things (fatty prepared chicken stuff,
steaks, pork, etc, basically anything that isn't meat in its original
form) that I might see some weight loss without having to worry about
excessive hunger.

I barely eat fruits and veggies.  It's not so much that I don't want
to- I love grapes, bananas, green apples, kiwi, pineapple, as well as
potatos, sweetcorn, greenbeans, etc- it's that I just plain forget
that I either have them, or can go get them.

For the last two years- since moving to another country- I have eaten
far more frozen, pre-prepared foods than I ever have before.  Breaded
chicken, "grillsteaks" with added soy, etc, frozen stew, and so on.  I
think I got into this habit because I'm not a cook, I don't enjoy
cooking, and when I buy fresh things they tend to go bad before I get
around to eating them.

But I want to change that.  I recently went through the freezer and
got rid of a bunch of stuff.  I then went to the grocery store and
bought meat- real meat- that can be frozen.

I have found already that baked chicken (sprinkled with mixed herbs)
with sweet corn and peas is much more filling, and does NOT leave me
feeling bloated of weighted down, whereas breaded chicken nuggets, a
decidedly smaller meal, actually, makes me feel heavy, lethargic, and
downright fat.

So, I am making a change to eating real meat, instead of frozen
dinners.  I also want to eat more veggies and fruit.

My real question after this ramble is this- how much difference does
it really make to switch from pre-prepared foods (like frozen dinners)
to fresh meat and veggies?  What about eating more fruit instead of,
say, a bowl of cereal?

I must admit, that on my Saturdays at work, I do feel so much better,
and don't get sudden stomach cramps from hunger if I have a banana and
small bit of cheese for breakfast, or an apple.  I feel lighter, as
well.  Greasy foods make me feel weighted down and heavy, but the
addition of fruit while avoiding what I used to eat, does seem to make
a difference in how I feel, if not how much I weigh.

I've read about sugar spikes while eating fruit or starches.  What
fruits of veggies cause this?

If this isn't all that clear, I appologize, and will clarify any
questions.

In the end its all about the calories.

Fresh vegtables and fruit are likely to have less calories then fried meats.

- you will get a LOT less sodium.

- you sill save money

- you will avoid a laundry list of additives that are put into
  frozen dinners.

More vitamins, more healthy fiber, healthier simple sugars that are less
likely to "spike" your blood sugar.

I would say none unless you have blood sugar issues or eat large amounts
of fruit.

The "bad carbs" tend to be processed ingredients like white flours and
added sweeteners ( corn syrup, table sugar, etc ).

Thanks for the info!  Just confirmed what I already thought was the case.

Yup - too much time hanging around vegetarian boards.  :)

Ok, where do you get that chicken is fatty?

First off, from personal experience.  All fruits and veggies for me -
leaves me hungry and craving and throws me into binge mode.   I need
fat.  I need protein.   I need that sustanance to keep my hunger at
bay.

Fruits tend to have too  much sugar and not enough satisfaction for
me.   Veggies tend to also leave me unsatisfied.

To each his own.  But give me a good mix of fruits, veggies and meat
and I'm a happy camper.
