My DH accepted the teaching job in the town near San Antonio. We'll be
relocating in July because he's taking a class first summer term at Texas
Tech. I've heard that stress causes an increase output of cortisol and that
can cause someone to either not be able to lose weight on restricted
calories or even gain weight. I'm going to try my damnest not to overeat
because of the stress but I'm a little worried that the situation may be out
of my conscious control if it's true about cortisol. Worrying about stress
causes more stress. I hope that the extra exercise I'll be getting boxing
up stuff and doing all the other prep work will compensate. Has anyone else
moved lately and how did it effect your weight loss effort?

I moved 2 years ago to this house:

and lost weight then, due to having to move stuff in hot weather.
Moving means that eating is going to be pretty hectic. A reasonable
guide to how much to eat, under these circumstances, could be to be
constantly a little hungry, but not ravenous.

I haven't moved in years, but don't recall that I gained any weight
when I did. There is a lot of exercise involved, as you note :-).
And I'm not sure it has to be that stressful, at least in the
worrying-about-it sense. It sounds like it's a positive step in your
lives, and it should in many ways be fun and exciting.
I have some job-related stress right now in my life, and I find that
the long lunchtime walks I've been taking really help me handle it.
In general I think exercise is one of the best ways to combat stress
-- quite independent of its help with weight loss.

It is exciting but scary just the same. I guess I'm just a worrier. I can
think of 10,000 problems that we're going to have to solve.

I moved a year ago and I agree... it can be very stressful. The biggest
challenge for me was the constant eating out. It is a pain to buy food and
move it again. Also, it is impossible to do anything with it packing up one
kitchen and unpacking another one. Fortunately, the packing and moving of
stuff does help burn a few extra calories. I didn't have good coping skills
back then, as I didn't start my plan until after I moved. Best wishes and
good luck on your move! I like San Ant.... it is pretty there.
P.S.... Here is a picture of the mansion I moved into last year:

showing you a picture of my mansion has no relevance to a dieting newsgroup.
I hope you understand.

Wow, you must spend hours and hours just cleaning house! It's beautiful,
though. How many people besides yourself live there? :-)

LOL! Your sense of humor is so funny!
Oh, but one of the angelfire popups just tried to put a trojan on my
machine. BASTARDS!!!
Perple Gyrl - 21 May 2004 14:13 GMT
I am sorry that happened to you! I didn't know that there was a risk of
trojans. Anyway, I am glad that you caught the smart-assed joke! I wish I
could afford to live in a house like that.

So do I. If we got 15 or 20 roommates we could swing it, I think! Too bad
communes went out with the '60s.

I think that house could have 20 roommates but it would still be too
expensive!

yeah, but think of the exercise you'd get just cleaning that place... Or,
how about the exercise you get to go from the bedroom to the kitchen... :)

Great house! I have a feeling that I saw this picture somewhere, maybe
you posted it here before...
