I just purchased a Weider 9300 home gym system.  I don't have a clue on how
to properly use the thing.  The chart that came with it is a general Weider
exercise chart and isn't tailored specifically for my machine.  If anyone
has any information on a website that gives examples and proper ways to
exercise on a home gym I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm on WW and I have lost 30lbs.  I started at 260.  I'm 34 years old and
female.  I have lost most of my weight without exercise because of an
injury.  I've just been cleared to exercise and would like to include weight
training because quite frankly I'm weak, especially in the arms.  I lurk
here from time to time for quite awhile, since 1997.  This is the first time
I have started a program and hung in there.  I've been on WW for 6 months
now.

Thanks,

Your best bet is to get a few sessions with a good personal trainer,
however, most of them are quacks.

Your second best bet is to get read a few really good books on weight
training.

I have never met a trainer who knew more then what has been in these books.

This site has some good online advice and some good books:

I don't have any info on how to use your home gym, but I have a lot of
info on how to use your body.  First, as a background task, spend some
time at www.stumptuous.com/weights.html.  The take-away message is that
you should spend some time pushing and pulling some heavy things.  A
weight-stack is one way to do it (and relatively safe since it controls
your plane of motion) but there are lots of ways to achieve this.

Weight Watchers is certainly a useful program, but it watches Weight,
and that's the downfall for people who want to lose Fat.  You forget to
keep your muscle.  I'm really thrilled that you want to hold onto your
lean body mass - it'll save your metabolism and prevent yoyo dieting -
but it can be psychologically hard when you first begin because you gain
some muscle and some glycogen reserves (and the water that goes with
them) and your weight stops dropping.  It's really, really okay - you'll
still be losing inches and losing fat - but it feels really really hard
to people who are watching "weight" instead of "fat."  Just be warned.

My best advice is to get a body fat percentage measurement.  Also, take
a cloth tape measure and write down all your measurements.  I use
www.bfltracker.com for this.

Good luck - you can do it!
