Greetings:

I will make a series of postings over the next few hours on various
things. I had to reduce my computer use considerably because of wrist
surgery

http://www.assh.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Patients_and_Public/deQuervains_Tendi
nitis/deQuervains_Tendinitis.htm

on April 29, then I went on vacation (report will be among the posts)
and when I got back last week and back to work, things completely got
out of hand. So I'm still getting caught up.

Read them or don't, reply or don't. It's part of my therapy and
accountability, and my egotistical belief that someone can learn from
me, whether I've done well or poorly.

Now that I've lost more than 100 pounds, I figure it's as good a time
as any to reassess.

What will stay the same: Consuming an average of 1,500 calories daily;
obsessively recording everything I eat on fitday.com.

What will change: Weighing myself monthly instead of weekly.

I feel that I have the eating plan well in hand, so for the rest of
the year, my efforts will be concentrated on exercise.

The combination of being unable to work for two and half weeks, being
on vacation for a week, and wonderful weather allowed me to ramp up my
exercise rapidly, perhaps too rapidly. I am currently walking 2.25
miles at the reservoir most days (weather and life will interfere one
or two days a week). During my time off and especially on vacation, I
walked as mcuh as four miles daily.

That kicked my arthritis into agony mode. On a few nights, I couldn't
find a position to sleep on that did not cause severe pain. My hips
were absolutely killing me. Ironically, my left knee, which I injured
a few years ago and which prevented me from exercising for months,
feels great.

Now, with the 2.25 miles most days, I have much less pain at night.

I have taken out a charter membership here:

http://www.ymcamd.org/Branches/StadiumPlace%20.html

The facility will open in the fall and will have a  pool with water
aerobics classes. I hope that will allow me to exercise daily -- no
impact to hurt my arthritic joins, plus no weather worries.

Doc says my wrist will have recovered enough by then to start strength
training in the fall, as well.

I'd like to thank the members of ASD. Your support has been, and I
hope, will continue to be crucial in my efforts to improve my health
and quality of life.

As always, YMMV.

Kasey, it's great to see you making such wonderful progress.  I
especially like seeing how you can exercise so much more than you once
could.  Keep up the good work!

Good for YOU Kasey!  If there was a pool closer than 20 miles away, I'd be
there all the time.

Well, Kasey, I for one am reading your reports with interest.  You've
done so well to lose 100 - I've been trying to do that for years but
never quite got there!   I can see that this seems a good time for you
to take stock and assess how far you've come already and what you need
to do next.

I'll continue to follow your posts with interest (and admiration:))

You're making great progress.  Enjoy the new gym.  It looks like a
wonderful facility.  They opened a new 'Y' in my area a couple of years
ago.
