I'm still reading but posting has been very spotty over the past couple
weeks.  It seems yard work, gardening, social events, dental appointments,
van repairs, biking, gym workouts, etc have consumed all my time.

I've been getting to the gym at least twice a week and using the treadmill
or bicycle on other days.  The gym workouts are great and I think I'm going
to like the new place.  The instructor I'm working with said I had good
form and was definitely able to do more than most people in my age group.

My first week at WW resulted in less than a pound loss but at least I'm
headed in the right direction<g>  Today is the second week but I'm not
expecting any great weight loss this week - too many social events over the
weekend.  I'll settle for staying the same.

I was having a few problems eating for the bike rides but a book Elise
suggested has solved most of the problems.  It was "High-Performance
Nutrition" by Susan Kleiner.  A good book for anyone who is having a
problem getting the right energy levels with exercise.  I've found it very
helpful for the bike rides and working out at the gym.

Hopefully my schedule with slow down soon and I'll be able to post more
often.  I'll just say hello to any new members I might have missed and
congratulations to the "losers".

Glad you like the gym Beverly.  I'd love to be told I compared
favourably to others in my age group.

Thanks janice.  I'm sure you're in better shape than many in your age group
with all the walking you do.

The pool area at the gym is currently closed for some renovations.  I'm
looking forward to relaxing in the whirlpool after some of the long days
I've spent working in the yard.

I was just thinking of you last night.    I went for a 19 mile bike
ride.   I was wondering how your adjustment to the new bike was
going...

I too, am working to find the time to get into the swing of things to
meet my summer goals.

I haven't fell off the new bike yet<g>  So far I love it.  I took it back
to the bike shop for some minor adjustments and they put a wireless bike
computer on it.  Now I can tell how fast and how far I've traveled.  It's
much easier to get 15mph out of this one.

I've discovered I can't hook the Burley trailer to the new one until I do
something about the bike rack I had installed on the back.  It interferes
with the hitch.  I took the 2yo granddaughter for a ride last weekend and
had to use the old hybrid.  Wow...did I ever notice a difference.

Maybe if we got out of the computer business we would have some time for
other things in life<g>  Hope your work has calmed down.  I'm currently
working on the design phase of the next project and it looks like it's
going to be another PITA project.

My bike computer just suddenly started working again about 3 weeks
ago.   It had worked for a while, then last fall, out of the blue it
stopped working.   But then a few weeks back I got on the bike and it
started working and has been very consistent since.    My average
speed is about 14mph on my rides.   My max is about 19 (with a
tailwind) and 22 downhill.   Going into the wind my average is about
11.

I was contemplating a GPS unit.   It would be nice if they had a small
unit that could track mileage and speed as well as had the cool
features like stop watches, lap times, and calorie counting...  oh,
and a heart rate monitor would be cool too.   :)   (gadget gizmo
queen).

difference?  as in, did you need more power in the legs to ride?  Or
is it just how it rides?

Yeah, but if I got out of the computer business I couldn't afford a
roof over my head, then I'd really be SOL.  :)

Work has calmed down.  I'm in catchup mode.    But our expansion and
remodelling projects are completed (which I got stuck heading up,
which is why I got so overwhelmed).   Now I'm slowly playing catchup
on all the things I pushed back because of the construction.

I'm just tackling one project at a time right now.    I tried doing
all of them at once but found I couldn't focus on any one thing long
enough to get it done.   So instead, go one at a time and just keep
putting the rest on hold until I get to it.   :)

But at least I'm not putting in 70hr work weeks right now.   Heck,
because of the holiday, this week probably won't even be a 50hr week.
Which means I have time for exercise.

My non-wireless on the hybrids often quit working when the 'little thingy'
comes up out of the holder near the wheel<g>  I just push it back in place
and everything works fine.  I often pull them out of place when I'm loading
or unloading the bikes from the bike rack.

My heart rate monitor has an attachment available for bikes but I don't
have it.  Take a look at the Cateye computers - I'm sure they have one that
will do everything you want.  Mine doesn't count cadence and I'm thinking
about getting one that does.  I can always switch the current one to
another bike.

The riding position is much different and it seems to take less power to
get more speed on the road bike.  Hills are much easier to climb, too.

I tinkered with both the thingy by the wheel and the handlebar mount where
the detachable computer hooks in.  Nothing seemed to fix it.   Then one day
I get on it and it works fine.   I asked DH if he had tinkered and he didn't
even know it wasn't working.  (he gave me a hard time when I bought it and
put it on, so I didn't want to tell him that it went belly up after only a
couple months)

Hey, it was only a $20 walmart special computer, but it works for now.

Thanks for the tip.   They don't have a gps unit, but they've got some cool
stuff.   Then again, I think I'm going to ask DH to get me this for my
birthday.   http://www.cateye.com/products/accessories/game_bike.html

Maybe I'll get some use out of the PS2.  :)   That looks like it might be
fun for the winter workouts I do when I can't ride in the dark.

That looks like fun.  But I don't have a Playstation.  Hell, I didn't get a
VCR until after every household in America had one<g>  I've never been a
gadget person - I hate reading the directions on how to work them :)
