I went one step farther than that recently.. The cafe I work at part
time (read about it in a diff thread if you'd like) I now buy
"groceries" for home and work lol. Because I can not eat most of what is
on the menu at work. My cook turns up his nose now and then when I go
back in the kitchen and cook my own things .. but oh well :)
The upside to it all is, I've turned a girl that works with me on to
doing some low carb'ing during the day. She's 16 and pretty much a blank
slate when it comes to nutrition, portion control and watching your
intake. She's a beautiful, funny girl. But also obese :( I have this
slight delusion of grandeur in thinking maybe I am having an impact on
her health/future hehe.

Very cool Susan! Even if it doesn't sink in totally now, when she
really decides to change she'll remember what you've taught her. I wish
someone would have made me believe how important exercise is and then
encouraged me to find something I would enjoy DOING.
And the fact is exercising is as important as brushing your teeth.

Often our healthy habits rub off on other people. I fix oatmeal, protein
powder and flax seed every work day in the convenience center on our floor.
In the past two weeks I've had two people tell me they've started adding
protein powder to their oatmeal because of me. One fellow was asking me
about the flax seed. He recently had a minor heart problem and he's been
trying to eat a little healthier.

I have a very dear friend who has witnessed my transformation and even
though he doesn't need to lose any weight, he's eating *much* better than
when I first knew him. I'll never convince him about broccoli though <g>

It's all in my sig line, Angie. I'm 60 inches tall and it took me one
year to lose 97 pounds. I've maintained it for 15 months.
I figured out my own plan. I eat 3 times a day and have 2 snacks. Lots
of fruit and veggies and limited "white food" (bread, potatoes, pasta,
rice). I eat good fats and whole grains. I drink lots of water. I have
no forbidden foods and reward myself regularly. (In my world, chocolate
is a food group. <g>)
I do a Winsor Pilates tape in the morning and the year I lost weight I
was walking 8 miles a day. I've cut back now to about 5, and alternate
Pilates with Krista's dumbbell workout in the morning.
