I didn't do Medifast, but a similar program HMR.
The costs were substantial, but in a year-to-year
comparison, my wife and I actually spent less money on HMR
(including food and fees) than we spent on food (alone) the
previous year.

Don't do it. Learn to eat right and start an exercise program. It's
cheaper and it will make you healthy.
The Medifast by itself won't make you healthy. You
need exercise for that.

My brother has done MediFast twice. In both cases he regained more
than he had lost. There is more to cost than the monetary. If you
try a plan with no maintenance phase there is no hope of long term
success.

My understanding is that Medifast is a standard
medically-supervised VLCD, which means that it should have a
maintenance phase. If it doesn't, that would be bad -- I'd
recommend choosing Optifast or Health Management Resources
(HMR) instead, since I'm sure they both do.
