100 lbs

I finally reached triple digits.  I've lost 100 lbs since starting to lose
weight.  Now, it's taken me a lot longer than most people here...about 4.5
years.  I've gone up and down several times, I've remained the same for
months on end, I've given up, I've deliberately stopped losing in order to
put on muscle, but I guess what counts in the end is that I have trended
down!

I am still a "big" woman.  I was huge before.  This morning at breakfast I
was talking to the kids about it and they all commented about how different
I look now.  No double chin, thinner face...plus blonder with a better
haircut (that from my daughter).  I wish I had some before pictures to
remind me of how I looked...but I usually arranged to be standing behind a
kid or sitting behind a table so all that would be visible was my face.  I
really need to start taking periodic full body pictures to remind myself of
how I have progressed.

What keeps me going are comments from friends and strangers, nagging from
Tom,  the desire to speed up on the platform, the desire to be as pain free
as possible and reading here on ASD and reading about other struggles and
successes.  Thanks to Chris for not only moral support and inspiration, but
for cluing me in about this group!

My next goal is to finish losing the 50 lbs the doc ordered!  Then....I
guess we will see.

Elise.

What a magnificent milestone!   Taking the pounds off slowly often ensures
they stay off permanently.

Hunt around for an old picture.  I have one of myself near my highest
weight hanging on my office wall.  I was trying to hide behind Mickey's
mailbox at Disneyworld<g>  It's a nice reminder of how far I've progressed
over the past few years.

Congratulations!  Now on to the next 50.

Congratulations, Elise -- you have a lot to be proud of! And hey, it took me a hell
of a lot longer than 4.5 years to get where I am (more like 19 years) -- what matters
is where we end up. Great job!

Good for you, Elise! And I see your knee is better, so
you'll be back on the platform in no time--both you and
Chris amaze me with your strength and committment.

You have done better than the great majority of dieters in your
original situation. Congratulations. That it took you so long is, in
all respects, a good thing. I would expect that maintaining your
weight loss will be about as difficult as actually losing.
Fortunately, you seem to be a sane person with an open mind and no
fear of reality, so, you should be able to find a way to stick to
living well. Good job exercising.

Elise, that's just wonderful.  Many congratulations - I hadn't
realised you had lost so much already.

Congratulations!  That's an amazing milestone!

FWIW - your rate of weight loss is very healthy.  According to my
calculations, you have consumed, on average, 210 calories per day less than
your body required for the last 4.5 years.  That is a very good rate of
loss.

Have you heard of the National Weight Control Registry?  They are an
academic group that studies successful "losers".  They've published a number
of findings regarding strategies for successful weight loss, and I'm sure
they would be interested in incorporating your experience into their
database.  They can be reached at

Again, congrats!

Thanks to everyone for all the  kind words and encouragement!  I have been
on cloud nine  since reaching my first big milestone.   Now, it's back to
business...and working on getting the house ready for my son's high school
graduation next week.
