A guy that I work with is trying to gain weight and he waswondering what he
should do to . He doesn't want to do it by eating big Macs from Mcdonalds
oranything else thats not healthy. He would like to do this the right way.
Right now he weighs 115lbs. I told him that I would like to be that weight.
Anyway, if any one has any ideas it would be appretiated.
TIA

Angie, misc.fitness.weights is better suited for this question, please
stop by there and ask for him. They discuss this issue all the time.
The answer is, like in weight loss, diet and exercise.
Eat more, eat better, exercise more.

No need to throw her to the wolves! I'd advise her to
Google MFW or lurk around (as I do).
Geesh.

Well, at least she is asking for a friend... You definitely have a
point though... By the way, my links were links to relevant google
searches.

Those aren't wolves, they're dogs. With guns. :-)
Seriously, I *like* the MFW people. They're in your face but they're
smart and don't tolerate bullshit so you quickly get a good education.

Oh, I don't disagree--I just wouldn't mosey on in
without knowing *how they can be* and start asking
about bulking, cutting, or anything else without
flame-retardent panties, a nine, and jpegs (please).
Amy (*I know they're not always "how they can be*, but
more often than not...)

Tell him not to kill himself. Tell him to bulk up on high fiber food and to
do weights to build muscle. Plus cardio or other aerobics for his heart.

I agree, if he's suicidal. That doesn't appear to be the case here.
> Tell him to bulk up on high fiber food
LOL, like larger bowel movements are what he's after. Nope, he needs
more protein and fat than he is probably used to getting. The trick is
to get more fat while making it healthy fats, not trans-fats and
saturated fats. That means eating less junk food (because junk food is
full of trans-fats.)

> do weights to build muscle.
Yup.
> Plus cardio or other aerobics for his heart.
I don't think many people would tell a 115 pound man to do aerobics
during a bulking cycle. It's a pretty stupid idea. Now, if he's
worried about heart health, yes, but then he has to give up the goal of
building muscle.

Tell him to do what my boyfriend did to me, the big plan. Eat lots of
spagetti, but use fetticinni noodles to make it. Eat nachos and drink
on the weekends. Eat a grilled cheese sandwich, eggs, and a tater
square for breakfast every morning. I used to be 90 lbs when I met my
bf but now I weigh in at a whopping 160. I'm only 4'11". I never had
much of an appetite, until I met him; he loves to cook and feed
people. He's 5'll" with a large appetite and he would make my plates
the same size as his and eventually I caught up to him, and all that
food caught up to my hips. Sad but true.

Angie,
If he's just looking to gain weight, it's simply a matter of calories. He
needs to eat more and eat better, in addition to hitting the gym on a
regular basis so he gains all over, rather than just in the tummy. If his
metabolism is incredibly fast, there are lean mass gainer protein shakes
that come in around 1000 calories each. A couple of those a day on top of
his increased caloric requirement and he will definitely put the weight on
quickly. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and is trying to become a
bodybuilder. He's managed to put on 30 pounds of lean mass in the last eight
months, so it's possible.
Sounds like more fun than dieting, I'll tell you that...
