I had a busy day today.  Morning errands nixed my usual dumbbell workout
and since I had to actually appear at work this afternoon, I didn't get
my lunchtime walk with my friend.  As I drove home at 3 it started to
rain - it had been predicted all day.  My normal practice is to walk 4.75
miles after supper.  SO . . .

1 - "Well, I've been thinking of taking one day a week off.  Monday would
be a good day for that"

2 - "I could use the treadmill in the basement - I could even watch my
Y&R tape while I do it"

3 - "I could still do my dumbbell deal - no reason it *has* to be in the
morning"

4 - "I could do my Pilates tape - I always feel good afterward"

As I finished cleaning up after supper my husband came in from walking
the dog and I asked if it was still raining?  Nope - just dreary.

5 - I walked 4.75 miles outside.  How could I *not* ????

Good for you, Laurie!

Just curious -- do you make an effort to push your speed when you
walk, or take a more leisurely pace?  When I walk at lunchtimes --
usually with my friend Ted -- we go at a pace that's quite fast for
me.  I enjoy this but in a different way than a more leisurely walk --
it's definitely real exercise.  (Like, I change into shorts and tank
top first, as my real clothes wouldn't be suitable for the walk or
wearable afterward :-) .)     One thing about the fast walking is that
I find myself wanting to break into a run now and again.  Do you ever
have that urge?  Do you run at all?  (We don't ever run, except
sometimes crossing a street.  Ted hasn't run for a long time, so
probably wouldn't be up for it, and he wears sandals when we walk.
But if we did run I'm sure I couldn't keep up with him, as he has much
longer legs than I do.  Anyway, I don't think I'm up to serious
running in the heat -- and it's pretty hot here :-) .)

Sorry it took so long for me to answer this, Chris.

I *always* walk fast.  I have a playlist on my iPod that's just right for
the length of my legs to be doing 4 mph or better.  There are 2 songs
that always make me want to run and I do!  If I run very far my knees
start to send little signals to me the next day so I try not to overdo
but during those 2 I just laugh and fly.

I could never run in my life before.

Cool :-).  I'd never run until last year either -- not since 10th
grade when we had to do the President's Physical Fitness Challenge 600
yd. run/walk.  I couldn't run the whole 600 yards, and I wasn't fat
then.  (Of course, I knew nothing about running, and I probably
started out at an all-out sprint or something.)

What kind of music do you like to walk/run to?

Almost all old pop &/or rock hits. Late 60's and 70's mostly.  I
graduated from HS in '74 and my favorite music spans those years.
Whenever folks have posted their playlists, I've seen few titles that I
recognize.  I did get You Shook Me All Night Long on Dally's say so and I
love that.

My 30th reunion (!!!) is next Saturday and they've promised to play them
all - we'll see. <s>

"She was a fast machine, she kept her motor clean, she was the best damn
woman that I've ever seen."  What's not to love?

:-)

Dally, who always has to run when "Shattered" comes on.

The instrumental part of Skyrnd's "Free Bird" makes me run.   I also find
myself wanting to run or pedal faster when the first part of "Just a Singer
in a Rock 'n' Roll Band" by the Moody Blues comes up on my player.  Ted
Nugent's "Stranglehold" is also a running song.

I need to switch out some of the slower tempo stuff on the player with some
AC/DC!

I'll have to look this one up :-).

Chris (who mostly runs to music of her youth -- mid 60's -- or else
house/dance music)

I think it could be our theme song!

Now I have to get that!!

My *gotta run* songs are Squeeze Me In and Maneater - sorta different
ends of the spectrum.  lol

The lyrics aren't a perfect fit: "knocking me out with her American
thighs" is nice, but "made a meal out of me, then came back for more"
sounds a little too high in protein for most of us, not to mention
portion control issues.  :-)

You did much better than I did.  I planned to take the daughter out to eat
and then head out to the gym.  I then discovered I needed to run a couple
errands and stop by the post office.  By the time I finished it was almost
9:00pm and time to head home.

Tonight nothing is going to get in my way!

I decided to take a walk last night around 9PM because I was restless.  I
made it about 1/2 mile before the skeeters made me turn around and go back
home.  I forgot to wear a hat with my long sleeves/long pants so now I have
some major bites all over my head.  I'm going to have to bathe in DEET from
now on if I want to leave my house in the evening.

Since I'm going to my class reunion next weekend, I'll be bathing in DEET
myself until then!  It's not like I can stay indoors for a week, right?
