Jarkat2002 - 15 Jun 2004 14:39 GMT After the suggestions here I took a side view and front view picture of myself in a bathing suit. I'm worse than I already thought. I was going to go swimming w/ my DD after her class today .. but forget that. I really shouldn't even be allowed to be seen in public. ~Kat

People may care a lot less about how we look, than we think... Are you still hanging on with your dieting?

[quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > "The early bird gets the worm, the second mouse gets the cheese." I doubt other people will notice as much as you do. After all, we're our own worst critics. Get that bathing suit on and go swimming. I always grab my cover up when I exit the pool. These things can hide quite a bit<g> I have spider veins on my legs but I don't let that keep me out of the water.
Get some tan in a bottle. A slight tan makes everything look better! It sure helps with the spider veins.

If you have light skin, thenk you are not made to look brown, it's as simple as that. If you get a fake tan and you have white skin, it looks fake, not matter how hard you work to make it look real..it never does. Just be happy you have light skin, I think lighter skin looks much, much cooler than fake tan...bleh!!!! Fake tan look like....fake tan!

Maybe out here they just use too much of it, because so many women have "orange-y" colored leg and arms. It looks really bad. I guess it's the good quality ones that I don't notice. : )

I use them to even out my tan. I have a great tan on the thigh area above the knee but everything below the knee is a little pale. That's what happens when you ride bikes<g>

They just don't tan as fast or as muc h as the rest of my body. I've also used it on the upper arms and shoulder area this summer as I've developed a 'farmers tan' from all the bike riding while wearing the patrol shirt. It comes down to right above the elbows.

Bath and Body Works makes a good self tanner. The key though is to exfoliate really well - I use a sea salt scrub and then shave. When applying the self tanner, use a little bit of your normal lotion mixed in with it and it seems to go on more evenly.

I'll have to look the next time I'm at the mall. I was just in their shop over the weekend to pick up some hand lotion. I currently use the Banana Boat creme and really like it. http://www.epinions.com/content_62837067396

Like Beverly said, we are all our own worst critiques and if you are swimming at a public pool or gym, you should know that most people aren't paying attention to you while you are swimming.
And you know what else, if you do it, you may just encourage someone else in your shape to do it too.

That T Woman - 15 Jun 2004 15:19 GMT Don't do that to yourself, Kat. You're probably being over-critical to yourself. So you don't look so good, now. Exercise even swimming will go a long way toward making you look better. As long as your swimsuit covers your naughty bits, you are allowed to do anything you damn well please. Don't let negative thoughts make you withdraw from anything you want to do!

They don't really care. If they look at you with judgement at all it's to say, "phew, I look better than her." They're only concerned with themselves. So looking bad in a bathing costume is just a way to make the world a happier place, really. :-)
Not exercising with your kids because you're over-fat is insane thinking, in my opinion.

Kasey - 16 Jun 2004 00:11 GMT As I wrote in response to another post concerning a woman worried about appearing in public in a swimming suit:
I'm 52 years old and have lost 108 pounds in eight months. The redundant skin makes me look like a Shar-Pei, only not as cute, and I'm still severely overweight.
I'm going to start water aerobics classes on June 21.
If I'm not afraid to let people see me in a swim suit, no one should be.
As always, YMMV.

That sounds like a great idea - nice for your joints!
> If I'm not afraid to let people see me in a swim > suit, no one should be. I'm a judgmental type (yes, really, as if you couldn't tell) and the only judgment I make about fat people at the gym is that they ought to get off of the chair where they're sitting (presumably waiting for a kid) and get busy trying to help themselves. A fat lady doing water aerobics would get only admiration from me.
> As always, YMMV. > > Kasey > 265/257/??? If you've lost 108 pounds shouldn't that starting number be 365?
Dally, always nit-picky about numbers

A fat lady doing water > aerobics would get only admiration from me. That reminds me of a lady that goes to the Curves that I do. She's very overweight, and I was there when she was shown around on her first night, which was well over a month ago. Since then her husband has dropped her off several times, but she won't actually use any of the equipment- she'll instead sit in the reception area until her husband comes back in half hour to pick her up. Each and every time one of the staff will walk by her and ask if she needs help or if she's ok, but she doesn't move. She has such a wounded-bird look on her face too. I wonder why she even signed up, but hopefully she'll decide to finally make that first step. :/

Hey, have you seen the new commercial - I'm not sure of the product, I think its some friends/share cell phone or something. But one clip is of 2 overweight women in bathingsuits in a pool doing what appears to be some form of water aerobics.
Anyhow, they show their faces above the water, then pan to below the water - and you know how the water distorts - making them look twice as big, then back to the top of the water where they are just smiling and having the time of their lives.
Anyhow - if those women can do it for a commercial that will be aired thousands of times and seen by millions of people... You can go in your own local public pool where you may only be seen by a few dozen people. :-)
Jarkat2002 - 16 Jun 2004 14:25 GMT >LOL... Oh, the mental picture of that. I only wish it were a mental picture for me lol
>Hey, have you seen the new commercial - to funny, I have had pretty much NO TV time lately. But when I'm there ... I'll look out for it :) Just a side note, I took the kids to a fun house and z (1 year old for those that don't know) looked into the fun house mirror and she freaked out! She was not happy her little head looked like it had been squeezed in a vise. poor kid ... when she grows up she will be in therapy now for sure! hehe ~Kat

Kasey - 16 Jun 2004 22:53 GMT > >I'm 52 years old and have lost 108 pounds in eight months. > > Wow .. how did you do that? 1) Ate less (average 1,500 calories daily, obsessively recorded on fitday)
2) Exercised more. I'm up to 2.6 miles walking in one hour most days. will add two hours of water aerobics at YMCA thrice weekly starting june 21. will start at still-under-construction gym in fall. i hope to be doing 90 minutes to two hours of exercise (land and water aerobics, treadmill, stationary bike, strength training) daily by the end of the year.

As others have said, this isn't a good way to think. Most people you see won't pay any attention to what you look like, and if they do, so what? There's no point in worrying about what strangers think. It can't hurt you any; what hurts you is thinking about what they're thinking. Just put it out of your mind and go enjoy yourself!

Perple Gyrl - 17 Jun 2004 05:11 GMT Awww come on... You are your own worse critic. I took water aerobics classes years ago when I weighed over 300 lbs. I was self concious at first but then I realized that no one cared. I didn't care what other people looked like and I am sure they didn't care what I looked like!
