I don't use it, but I know a number of people who would give up their spouses before they'd give up Fitday. Good luck!

Jim Bard - 16 Jun 2004 16:14 GMT > Now, time to enter food eaten! > > i Makes sense to me. Seems like if you put meals into Fitday instead of your stomach, you should lose weight.

But - Good going!! THen again, I've seen pics of you before... <eg>
Oh, did you know that Whylers makes a powdered zerocal drink just like Crystal Lite - but its much cheaper and tastes the same, uses the same ingredients. :)

Mine is at

I use fitday right now because I need to lose 3 lbs, 1 that I gained and two pounds that need to come out by the end of this month.

Keeping records is a great way to get back on track -- I have already been doing so much better now that I found the willingness to get out the food journal again. I found that I like doing mine on paper as opposed to the computer -- whatever works is wonderful, though!

Mary M - Ohio - 16 Jun 2004 18:56 GMT > This may be better > http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=theironwoman Thank you; that worked perfectly. Great job in taking the reins of accountability and showing the willingness to try something different and scary for you. As I remember, you were very reluctant to post your weight? Congratulations for doing so -- that is a big step and I would venture to say that many of us felt that way at the beginning. And believe me, had I topped out at your weight, I would be dancing on air right now, because my journey would have been much shorter and my body would look so much better than it does now. So you are off to a great start! Keep that momentum going!

But I'm a computer geek and that kind of logic works with my brain, but doesn't with everyones. :)

But, as a tip, try weaning yourself off by watering down your drinks.... start with 50/50 or even 75/25 and work your way down. With things like gatorade for workouts, I put about 6oz in my bottle, then fill the rest of the 32oz bottle with water now. It gives me just enough taste (and the electrolyte/salt/sugar) to help with hard workouts.
For me, there is usually enough left in the bottom that even filling my bottle up a 2nd time at the gym (their water tastes nasty) will keep the taste ok.

Depends on if you consider 3 weeks long, I guess -- I had a few of those. It wasn't a problem to me.
The point is, these periods didn't correlate with any change in my consumption of aspartame or anything else. I see no more reason to blame aspartame than, say, eggs or broccoli, both of which I've also been consuming regularly, along with many other foods. Or maybe I should blame weightlifting or running, both of which I've also been doing throughout. Or I could blame my job, my hobby of needlework, or other regular activities. All such conclusions would be equally supportable -- i.e., not at all.
Maybe there are people who lose weight steadily every week for 2 years, but I'm not one of them. But I've lost every month. I've been very happy with my rate of weight loss. It was right on target with my objective when I began all this. Due to my desire to preserve as much muscle and strength as possible, particularly rapid loss was never an objective -- rather the opposite. At one point (before I got involved w/ ASD) I found myself losing too fast and adjusted my eating upward a bit.

The point of this exercise is to help you, not slam you. Using fitday is a great tool. Nudging you as a beginner towards using it right seems like we're helping you. There isn't any judging going on here.
Igor is right, the "calories burned" number way overstates your resting basal metabolism. (I have no idea where they got those ridiculous numbers.) His idea of putting your lifestyle as sedentary/bedridden makes sense to me as a work-around, not an indictment of your lifestyle.

His idea of putting your lifestyle as sedentary/bedridden > makes sense to me as a work-around, not an indictment of your lifestyle. I am well aware that Jarkat is an active mother. So suggesting to enter sedentary/bedridden should not be interpreted as a putdown. I am an "active father" and yet I enter sedentary/bedridden. Otherwise, fitday overstates calories burned, quite terribly.
For the amount of money spent, Jarkat got very good value in terms of input from other posters. I can hardly recall any suggestion made to her by anyone that was incorrect.

Alex - 17 Jun 2004 15:55 GMT >>and the calorie burned number is most likely bogus also. >> [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > >"The early bird gets the worm, the second mouse gets the cheese." Awwwww, Kat. :-( I'm bummed you feel that way. I thought it was a HUGE and amazing (!) step for you to post your journal and make it available for us to see. Like you said what you did before didn't work, so I can only imagine the strength it took for you to make your diet available for all to help you! I was in awe of your leap of faith, posting that.
Overall, I have found fitday fantastic for journaling food choices and adding up caloric intake, but the calories burned section is woefully inadequate. Beverly suggested www.caloriesperhour.com and I found that fitday was underestimating my workout calories burned and my lifestyle/BMR overestimated. In all, I found that I generally burn MORE per day than fitday says. Which, of course, is a good thing. :-)
I hope in the future you'll reconsider sharing your journalling, but if not, I know how you feel. Just know I admire your strength!
