This may be obvious to most of you, but it took me until just this month to
figure out how to end my nighttime hunger. I just eat all my fats at
dinner!
I've always been able to keep control of my eating during the day, I usually
didn't eat breakfast or much lunch and instead ate a big dinner, and then
would keep looking for things to eat until I went to bed. I even did this
during the first five months of my dieting and it was causing a lot of
concern for me. But since my diagnosis of T2 diabetes I've been real
careful to space out my eating into 6 meals a day and keep the level of
carbohydrates within reason and spread out evenly. I had been avoiding fats
like the plague but my doctor told me I should be eating more "good" fats
(based on my cholesterol tests) and so I'm adding things like olive oil,
fatty fish, avocado, etc. To my surprise I actually found it hard to get
the fats into my daily diet and would have to (have to!) make myself a
shredded lettuce salad at dinner and add olive oil or guacamole to get the
required fats.
I'm finding it hard to make myself eat my nighttime snack at around 9:00pm
because I'm feeling so full from dinner. I think the effect carries over
because I have to force myself to eat my 6 ounces of skim milk and two-prune
breakfast. Yesterday I had 1,016 calories / 21 WW points and I'm still full
this morning!
You know, there's something to be said for managing your eating!

I'm working on my night time eating too. I would like to not eat after 8 (we
have late dinners in the summer) but I find myself hungry around 11 or 12 so I
have a snack.
I would rather just skip the snack! :)
I'm going to give your idea a try, I think it may just work.
THanks.

Two more ideas: have a drink of water when you go to eat something.
And my favorite one: brush and floss your teeth. I've been putting
teeth whitener on at night sometimes, and that curbs night-time eating, too.

I keep saying I want to do that ... I'll give it a shot. :)

I've been going through the teeth whitening, too. My dentist made a mold
for my teeth and I've been wearing it 3-4 hours in the evening. I guarantee
you won't be eating anything with these in your mouth.

There you go! Fat keeps you going for a long time...
I am not sure if there is any evidence based reason to "avoid fats
like the plague"...
