CHICAGO, Illinois (Reuters) -- Obese men with difficulties in getting an erection can improve their sexual function by exercising and losing weight, Italian researchers have said.
Of 110 men attending a weight loss clinic, half undertook an intensive program and those who exercised more each day and lost more weight scored better on a measure of erectile function two years later.
"Our data demonstrate that lifestyle changes, including a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise, improve erectile function in obese men and resulted in about one-third of men with erectile dysfunction regaining sexual function after treatment," wrote study author Katherine Esposito of the Center for Obesity Management, Second University of Naples, Italy.
Improving blood circulation, a benefit to overall cardiovascular health, was the main reason cited for higher scores on erectile function tests, Esposito wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The second group of men received only general advice about healthy food choices and exercising and they scored just as poorly as before.
About 30 million American men have erectile dysfunction, which affects an estimated 12 percent of men younger than 59 and 30 percent older than 69.

> Plus, the fat dudes will FINALLY be able to SEE their cocks! Now I have a problem whether this is amusing or not. Fact is, one of the most despressing experiences in my life was when my oldest son asked "Dad, how long ago was it when you last saw your dick?" It was one of the many last straws which shocked me into TRT - which caused me lose 30 pounds and made my manhood visible again. So presently I can laugh heartily at such an observation, but 5 years ago it was not so funny.
On another note, losing fatty tissue can reduce aromatization and thus might increase total T . And exercise is said to increase T as well.

And exercise is said to increase T as well. As a female, I welcomed the sight of my toes as the pounds melted.

MartinB - 24 Jun 2004 13:54 GMT So, how do they measure changes in "erectile function". Do they take the chap's word for it, or is there a scale, or a springy thing that measure bounce vs tension?? The mindboggles. This is just out of curiosity you understand!!!

It was done by a questionnaire, so in other words, they took the chaps' words for it. Here's the relevant text from the article:
"Erectile function was assessed by completing questions 1 to 5 on the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), which is a multidimensional questionnaire.13 The 5 questions asked were (1) How often were you able to get an erection during sexual activity?; (2) When you had erections with sexual stimulation, how often were your erections hard enough for penetration?; (3) When you attempted sexual intercourse, how often were you able to penetrate (enter) your partner?; (4) During sexual intercourse, how often were you able to maintain your erection after you had penetrated (entered) your partner?; and (5) During sexual intercourse, how difficult was it to maintain your erection to completion of intercourse? The IIEF score represents the sum of questions 1 to 5, with a maximum score of 25; a score of 21 or less indicates erectile dysfunction."

Ace - 25 Jun 2004 17:59 GMT I agree with the study. Weight loss and exercise greatly helps.
I'd like to add another big factor that is not mentioned in the study: 8 hours of SLEEP.
It works wonders and almost as good as viagra.

Yup, plus every 35lbs (IIRC) of lost lard adds an inch to the length of your dick :)

There is a lame brained woman who frequently posts here that does that and then even puts messages on the NG to that effect. What is ironic is that the woman in question cannot attract any men at all except what comes off the bottom of the heap, the rejects.
